DAMN YOU GOOGLE WHY DO YOU KEEP FIXING THINGS THAT AREN’T BROKEN?

Can somebody help me figure out how to get rid of the tabs in my inbox and have everything in one inbox again? I do not like this at all. I can understand how it could be helpful to some people, but I want ALL MY MAIL IN ONE BOX. Anyone got any tips?

I wish I could help, but I, too, am looking for an answer to your question. Couldn't figure it out last night. Ugh, I can't *stand* when companies "fix" things that didn't need fixing and don't let you opt out of the changes.

It's the no-opting-out that infuriates me. I think it's great that they introduced something like this for people who want it--I'm sure that if, say, you use one email for your business and your personal stuff, that the separate tabs could be useful. BUT IT'S NOT USEFUL TO ME SO WHY DO THEY DO THIS TO ME?

I will definitely let you know if I find/come up with a solution.

Go to settings > Inbox, untick all the other tabs except the priority tab, and it should look like it did before. At least that worked for me.

And of course I meant 'primary' - I probably should have checked before I commented :D

(also, the inbox type has to be default)

I was wondering why this hadn't happened to me yet since everyone else seems to be getting it, but it turns out that if you use the Priority Inbox, you don't get switched over. And I LOVE the Priority Inbox, so it was just a bonus that they didn't force me into this.

(Priority is great, because you can put important things or things you need to do at the top of the email list and then just let everything else stay at the bottom. I can't live without it at this point. Of course, I think it only allows 50 emails per section, so I guess it depends on how you use your inbox. Me, I'm an archiving fool.)

I was going to make the same comment [livejournal.com profile] ruuger did, but now I don't have to. :)

I wonder how many customers they lost by this, though. This is what happens when a company is run by technicians; no one who's not a programmer would think it's a good idea to make people think they now have to check THREE inboxes rather than one to read their mail...

Have they turned into Livejournal? lol

I view gmail in HTML only, so I don't see this. HTML is faster for me. Also, no ads.
