What's most infuriating for me is that I KNOW that in right clothes, I'd look amazing. I'm a huge hourglass, big boobs and wide hips with relatively narrow waist. I can look good. But the clothes are freakishly hard to get (once upon a time it took me a month to hunt down a button-down), they're less comfortable, more bothersome -- so most of the days, it's just jeans and t-shirt. Not flattering at all.
Sorry, I'm rambling. Body image is one of my biggest issues, and I'm trying very hard not to end up giving you five comments' worth of rant.
You might want to read Atwood's "Lady Oracle". It's not an optimistic novel, but an amazing study of how body image issues are made.
