So about a year ago now, maybe longer, I lent the BFF the first two seasons of Buffy. The other night while we were at the theater to see HP, she mentioned she was watching it again. I can easily come on too strong about things I love, so I played it cool and asked her where she was and she told me she was in S2. I said something like, "Yeah, that's when it starts to get good." Then we moved on to other topics of conversation.

Last night she sent me a text that said

I. LOVE. BUFFY.

OMG Y'ALL I'VE MADE ANOTHER CONVERT. I figured she would like it because she tends to have excellent taste, but I didn't know if she would love it. Apparently she does, and I can't WAIT for her to get to the later seasons!

Kidding. I don't think she'll be a huge Bangel fan? She might not ship Buffy/Spike hardcore, either, but I feel like the OTTness of Buffy and Angel won't really appeal to her, especially in S3 when she gets there. But WE SHALL SEE. If she does, I'll just tease her and she'll tease me and there shall be much teasing.

Odds are she won't reach our level of obsession, you know. I have a bunch of friends who really love the show, but they don't read fanfic. And they're geeky types, too, who play video games and even do live action roleplaying. And yet!

Yeah, I'm pretty certain she won't. She was really into LOST, like having conversations about it with anyone who would talk about it, but she didn't go fandom crazy. So she almost certainly won't with BtVS, either. Still, just knowing that she likes it makes me squee-y-happy!

I HAD THAT HAPPEN TO MEEEEE!!! My old roommates were admittedly Twilight fans who desecrated our apartment walls with posters of Edward and Jacob, so when they watched Buffy, the inevitable happened and they squealed whenever Buffy and Angel were on screen together and it drove me so crazy I just had to leave the room. I moved out, and left my Chosen collection with them so they could finish the show. I went out to Disneyland with the girl i was closest with, and we were waiting in line for a ride, and she turns to me and says, "I get it now. The Spike thing." And I swear the Hallelujah chorus started playing!

Oh I'm so jealous. I keep trying to get people in my life to watch Buffy because NONE OF THEM HAVE and they all just laugh at me and pat me on the head. So congrats. I would be such an excitement if I were you! (And of course she loves it, how could she not? :)

I've had a lot of bad luck trying to get people to watch Buffy and then - whammo, my 13-year-old son is obsessed. He doesn't care about the 'ships; he loves the stories. It's really fun to have someone in the house who (for example) pops up at my elbow to discuss the implications of the dreams in "Restless."
