I have *got* to get caught up on that show. I absolutely love it, so there's no excuse for being so far behind... except that I can't watch while my husband is home because he's even more behind than I am and doesn't want to be "spoiled." *facepalm*
"Let's see if anyone tries to kill us and work backwards."
It like the previous season is being inverted. A child calls, the Doctor goes to save the child, but the child he saved before kills the child he's trying to rescue. Also, Amy's ability to remember is being used against her -- instead of bringing the Doctor back, her attachment to the Doctor is what pushes her over the edge into attacking a child.
I kinda loved the theme of imminent death lurking behind your shoulder but you're unaware of it -- the Doctor is unaware he's going to die in the future; River, Rory and Amy are unaware of the aliens as soon as they turn their backs.
It's like last season was a fairytale, and this season is a mystery where the murder begins in the first act and the rest of the story unravels from that moment.
When River was expressing her sadness that every time she met the Doctor he'd know her less and less, and how meeting him when he didn't know her at all would kill her -- ouch. It retcons her sacrifice and gives it an almost suicidal edge. The despair of his not knowing her was part of why she was so ready to sacrifice herself for him.

Is it just me, or do the marks on Amy, Rory and River in next weeks episode look like tallies?
