It was a guy I refer to as "Smart Xander Fan" and he was thinking Season 9 would be Buffy pining over Xander only to go to an alterna-prom Spike throws where they both get drunk and he declares that they could have been "epic." I've taken this (and my knowledge of Joss) and ran with it, so yes. Season 9 will be the Spuffy version of blood shed, lives ruined. Joss has deconstructed Bangel, now he'll hit Spuffy. It won't be companionable conversations on fire escapes for long.

Haha, I've kinda been thinking that's what would happen actually. That Buffy will pine, that Spike moves on to casual others because he thinks she's over him, then they realize HELLO EPIC LOVE RIGHT HERE. And they get back together.

So the basic structure, not the specifics.

Oh, okay. I don't have a problem with that. I thought it was going to be deconstructing Spuffy the way it deconstructed Bangel--ie, blood shed, lives ruined AFTER they got together. Do not want.

But lives can be ruined before they get together--that's just dandy.
