I haven't read anyone's thoughts but Emmie's--though I'm going to check out Maggie's real quick before I go to bed--so I wasn't aware. And I still don't know that I think that the series overall was a success. As a matter of fact, I'd say it wasn't. It was a big mess that had some really good bits in it.
But I did lovethis last issue and Joss' letter made me really hopeful that he knows (at least some of) what he did wrong and that he's headed in a direction I'll like.
And you're right! This is Buffy back at another of her lowest points, but unlike before, she doesn't run away from everyone she loves (post-killing-Angel) or become clinically depressed (S6). She's at a low, but a low she can handle and battle back from without seeing her soul be crushed in the process. It's progress.
This issue is what Season 8 should have been, and what we can expect Season 9 will be. I'm good with that.
