That I will find more television to love? That I will ship loads and loads? That I will write fic but not as much I wish to? That I will generally be a flailysqueeyfangirly mess? Basically that life will continue on very much as it has for this past age?

OH HELLO. I WAS JUST THINKING ABOUT YOU. HI YOU.

I'll never get over how happy it makes me to see The West Wing on your list of fandoms, plus you shipping Ainsley/Sam. It's too, too perfect. TOTAL WIN. THEY'RE THE BEST.

It might be time to rewatch some TWW, I think.

Cheers for Buffy love, Spike love, and Spuffy love! This totally scary thought occurred to me as I was reading: what if Lauren stopped loving Buffy and Spike and Spuffy? And my heart jumped into my throat, pure horror, HORROR. Say it ain't so.

That would indeed be a sad panda day.

OH HAI YOURSELF.

Did I buy myself a Christmas present in the form of the complete TWW on DVD? Yes, yes I did. :D THEY ARE DEFINITELY THE BEST EVER EVER EVER.

Yay for rewatches!

This totally scary thought occurred to me as I was reading: what if Lauren stopped loving Buffy and Spike and Spuffy? And my heart jumped into my throat, pure horror, HORROR. Say it ain't so.

OMG HOW AWFUL DON'T SPEAK OF SUCH THINGS! *knocks on wood*

It would indeed. In-deed.

[identity profile] angearia.livejournal.com 2010-12-28 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! I read a Regency romance novel that made me think "Lauren might like this..."

It's about a couple who get married to avoid scandal, but are decidedly not in love with each other yet. But they learn to love each other after they're married. I mean, it's by no means a great piece of fiction, but my sappy romantic reader self enjoyed it. And the thought occurred to me that I wanted to send you books, haha. Like, well I'm done with this, I'll send it to Lauren. ♥ ♥ ♥

(But of course I have the feeling it's not good enough because you have such good taste in literature and this is just romantic fluff...)

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-12-28 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, you know that's my biggest romantic kink, so I bet I would enjoy it! I am not above reading romantic nonsense now and then as is evidenced by the fact that I still haven't run out of Spuffy fic to read and reread. :D As long as it's not excruciatingly badly written (a la Twilight), I bet I'd love it. :D

[identity profile] angearia.livejournal.com 2010-12-28 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's actually quite decent. I mean, the prose is by no means high art, but the dialogue is smart. And I enjoyed the characters.

Just to give an idea of how it begins (I don't think this is too spoilery at all), but this rake takes on a bet to seduce a lady, and he succeeds in getting her to surrender only he pulls back, unable to go that far in debauching her. He confesses that he'd done it for a wager and tries to shame her for being so naive (think Spike rescuing that girl in the alley only to yell at her for being foolish), and once she's overcome her shock, she composes herself and says,

"I thought to take some pleasure from you, Lord Montford, since you are so very famous for giving it. Alas, that fame has been greatly exaggerated. You have disappointed me. I expected a great deal better of such a notorious rake. And why ever would I wish to reform you when you are a disappointment as you are, or tame you when you are already far too bland? I have no such ambition, you will be relieved to know. Yes, let us go back, by all means. There is nothing more to be gained from remaining here, is there?"

He was startled into a bark of laughter.
Well.
That was a masterly setdown if ever he had heard one.

Basically, they're very bantery. They exchange barbs back and forth, it's very fun to just follow their interactions. It's one of those books that's really just about them. There's no contrived mystery plot or dire circumstances surrounding their romance. They are what makes it interesting.

It's light, but the good kind of light, I think. :)

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-12-28 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
That...sounds exactly like my sort of thing. Plot is overrated anyway! And banter! And marriage of convenience! And smart dialogue! *wanders off to see if they have it at the library*

[identity profile] angearia.livejournal.com 2010-12-28 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Fun! If you manage to snag a copy, I hope you enjoy!

Besides all the fun banter, there's also a loving focus on the importance of family, and these two are always laughing at each other.

(Now I'm hoping I didn't oversell it... ;))

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-12-28 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Family! Laughing!

If you oversold it I will HUNT YOU DOWN AND TORTURE YOU.

[identity profile] angearia.livejournal.com 2010-12-28 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! I'm shaking in my stylish, yet affordable boots!

Oh oh! I watched Black Swan the other night. I found a good quality DVD screener. It's soooo good. Have you seen it yet?

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-12-28 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't! I found a copy and then it disappeared from the download link before I could actually watch it! I have been told not to watch it late at night before I go to bed. :D

Have you read any Emily Loring? She was a 30's light-romance-with-a-dash-of-intrigue writer who seemed to write nothing but this trope. Like, I read four books in a row - randomly selected - and they all did this. I'm not sure if I can actually recommend them because, well, I was fifteen when I read them and even then I was skeptical of their quality. But there you are.

But I have sneaking love of the trope, too! Maybe because it's got the "I love you but I can't tell you" thing going on? I don't know.

I can't remember, did you ever read Cotillion? Because it sort of had that, too.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-12-28 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't! But it sounds worth checking out--if the quality's awful, I can always take it back to the library. :D

I have it on my list, still! And have been wanting to read it lately! I might have to bump it up to the top....

[identity profile] petzipellepingo.livejournal.com 2010-12-28 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Lots of salty goodness in these lists.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-12-28 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Very true! :D

There is so much to love on this list. :)

(Don't know if you saw my comment on your last post, but I do know your birthday is coming up, and I write things for friends on birthdays, so if you would like something prompt away.)

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-12-28 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, right? AND YOUR ICON MAKES ME SO HAPPY!

I haven't replied to many comments yet (bad girl!), but that sounds lovely! You're too sweet!

I'll go with Sam/Ainsley because why not. And the prompt...Ainsley finally gets Sam to dance with her. :D

[identity profile] crazyumbrellas.livejournal.com 2010-12-28 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Mind if I snag this? And I am still so surprised with Bonnie/Jeremy, but in the good way. Just, those two. And I hope when TVD comes back we get loads of Bonnie, Caroline, and Elena time!

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-12-28 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course not! I snagged it from half my flist, and it's so fun to see peoples' answers.

I KNOW. I never would have thought I'd be so taken by Bonnie and Jeremy. Never. But it's working and he's growing up and I find myself enchanted.

And I hope when TVD comes back we get loads of Bonnie, Caroline, and Elena time!

This would make my year!

Harry Potter is like crack. Every time you try to quit, it pulls you back even harder. WHY BOOKS WHY? Forever I will love it.

Agreed on soooo many things. You may be the only person in the world who agrees with me on like all ships. Like everyone else there's at least one where I'm like WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-12-28 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
IT SO IS. I seriously do not understand. I always think I'm getting over it, BUT I NEVER AM.

You may be the only person in the world who agrees with me on like all ships. Like everyone else there's at least one where I'm like WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!

HAHAHA THIS IS FANTASTIC.

[identity profile] mollivanders.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Where is Ainsley Hayes from? I'll have to check out Kindred since you seem to love it so much :)

I didn't expect to get into TVD so much either. The things that happened this year :)

Harry Potter! WHY CAN'T I QUIT YOU?

BECAUSE IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL AND HAS RON WEASLEY :D

[identity profile] ever-neutral.livejournal.com 2010-12-29 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I ♥ these lists.

Oh HP. My whole life lately amounts to reblogging pretty Trio graphics on Tumblr. Le sigh.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-12-30 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
WAIT WAIT WAIT.

WHO ARE YOU ON TUMBLR? Am I following you and I just don't know it? Or am I *gasps in horror* not following you?

[identity profile] ever-neutral.livejournal.com 2010-12-30 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
HAVE YOU GONE COMPLETELY MAD?? I'm @starchesnimrod and you've been following me since I caved and got one!!!

(See, I figured you were consciously following me since you've been reblogging things like this from me, which I figured was like a thing only you and I a couple of others would appreciate...)

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-12-30 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I HAD FORGOTTEN THAT WAS YOU!

No, seriously, I have the hardest time remembering who's who over there unless they do something really obvious (like [livejournal.com profile] ineffort's every single post is about Jesse Eisenberg and about how Andrew Garfield is her ULTIMATE ENEMY and it is hilarious) AND NOW I AM EMBARASSED.

Because I absolutely now do remember that I started following you consciously and that you're the one who is always blogging my HP kids, but I had forgotten and now I'm blushing and I'm going to go hide in a corner.

[identity profile] ever-neutral.livejournal.com 2010-12-31 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, no, I have trouble remembering who's who too, especially because everybody seems to love changing their name every week??

BUT WELL. THAT'LL TEACH YOU TO FORGET. And I shall continue to reblog our HP kids. Forever and ever amen.
