Okay.

If I were a television character, what would my story be? Would I be the hero? The sidekick? The love interest? (Ha!) The comic relief? The deadpan snarker? Would my story be a redemption tale, a fall from grace, a bildungsroman? What would my genre be? Comedy? Drama? Sci-fi? What would the title be? Who would star and guest-star? What would be the most important tropes to keep popping up?

So after that discussion yesterday I'm going to go with your instinct here and say you'd be the shadow character since I think you know yourself pretty well. That said, the shadow character (like your type) gets the romance (Han Solo, Ron Weasley) so I think you might have a subplot of romance but certainly nothing that dominates your story. Just one that informs it on another level :)

The shadow character can be the deadpan snarker too and I think your personality fits that. I mean, someone's got to tell the hero when things are too dangerous or stupid to try, and to do it in a light way so people don't ignore you!

As for your genre, I would go with comedy. Like if there was a serialized comedy show about a group of friends who are on the run from some crazy wizard and are trying to save the world? You would be the person who points out the evil snake about to lunge upon everyone. And your title could be... Fixings.

A Southern group of friends, then. You would need a Spike character who understood you though, and the season one finale might end with a showdown between you and another character with that person leaving only to show up again in season three. Is that a trope? :)
