Wait--so we only get to offer up to 10 fandoms we'd be willing to write for for Yuletide this year? Well, that kind of sucks. I liked last year where I signed up for like twenty-five.
It's apparently because the more fandoms people offer, the slower the matching is (and I guess they also want to prevent people from signing up for everything even remotely familiar with and then dropping out when they get too difficult assignment).
But you can actually sign up for more than ten fandoms as long as you're willing to write any characters for them - it's the bucket-list-whatever thing that's explained in one of the screencasts.
There is a way to do it, but it's a bit complicated. In one of your offers, you fill in the fandom and "any character" ticky box, and then in the "optional tags" field you list all the other fandoms you want to offer. (This only works for fandoms where you're willing to write any characters, however.)
Eh. I just went through and chose very specific ones, all of which I'd be over the moon to write about. It'll be good! Though the process takes forever. I'd forgotten about that.
Well, and the process took even longer this time because of the server load. Better next year, maybe? *fingers crossed*
Yeah, I picked nine that I'd be totally excited to write about, and I'm leaving the last open to see if there a particularly needy fandom I want to sign up for later.
Yeah, I thought by waiting a couple days the servers would have less traffic, but apparently not. Frankly, if I were an AO3 user who WASN'T doing Yuletide, I would be so pissed about that challenge by now.
Nope! Through Friday, I believe! I would say go ahead and then really force yourself when the time comes. They actually do let you opt out and then get a pinch-hitter for you, but they frown on it if it's pretty close to the deadline; a certain number of days before the deadline and they don't let you participate the next year out of punishment.
But I absolutely love it. It's such fun writing stuff you never would have written otherwise, and then you get fic for that fandom you love that's never had any fic at all! JOY!
Ha! Not exactly! I had about 25 (mostly books or movies) that I trusted that I could rewatch or reread in time to write something. It's quite reasonable to rewatch one movie or reread one book and then write it, right? I only signed up for two or three TV shows that I knew enough about.
I know. I'm disappointed, but it wouldn't be fair for me to sign up when I know I don't have the time; I can't force myself to be a bad person. :) Next year might work out easier.
(Also, don't know if you saw, but I filled your fried apple pie prompt.)
