Dear Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec,
THAT WAS A CLOSE SHAVE, YOU TWO. If you had seriously killed Jenna, another female character (who I think could be really interesting if you'd give her a character arc), I would have gone completely berserk. But thankfully you just went for the big shock without the follow-through. You also did this in an episode where Elena, Caroline, and Bonnie were all awesome in various ways. So I forgive you. BUT DO NOT LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN, DO YOU HEAR ME?
Speaking of killing people off, MATT IS OFF-LIMITS. He is necessary for Caroline's future happiness. Those two will end up together in the end, I know it. SO YOU BETTER NOT KILL HIM OFF EITHER. But Mason's death was very well-done--ripping hearts out of chests! How very Temple of Doom! So we're cool for the moment. We'll see how long we stay that way.
Tentatively yours,
Lauren
P.S.
Thank you for making Jeremy less annoying. I didn't think that was possible sans-Anna. WHO WAS ANOTHER AWESOME FEMALE CHARACTER YOU KILLED OFF.
I think I need more TVD icons.

This is an excellent way of putting it. I'm worried about the exact same thing and I think the show tends to lose sight of this sort of thing when it gets too caught up in admittedly entertaining character drama. I like moral ambiguity, but only when it feels like intentional character development and not like the writers just can't be bothered to create real consequences for immoral acts by their "good guys."
