Indulge my curiosity

So tonight was a night of ~conflicts when it came to the TV schedule. Too much awesomeness at one time, and you had to choose!

So I'm curious as to what your decisions were.

[Poll #1622958]

Personally, I just watched The Vampire Diaries (OMG STUFF HAPPENED!) and am now downloading Community. But it was a difficult decision, let me tell you.

So how did y'all decide?

[identity profile] angearia.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, I have to download both but if I were to choose, it'd be TVD. Because Community is shorter so less to miss.

Not really a measure of my love, though. And how much does it suck that my two favorite new shows are on at the same time? BOO.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
I KNOW RIGHT? THE SAME TIME. My favorite comedy, my favorite drama of the moment. Ugh.

Actually, I'm about to watch Outsourced which I am guessing will either be awesome beyond the telling or ridiculously offensive. But after that--Community.

But yeah, there was no way to measure my love. My little sis was over here and she watches TVD, not Comm, so it was a pretty easy decision this week. Maybe I'll trade off weeks!

[identity profile] pennydrdful.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
This is completely off topic but...

I've just started watching Mad Men. And I've always been entranced with that little clip of that lovely, cigarette smoking blonde woman taking aim with her small rifle that is featured on your profile page. But since I saw that a long time ago, and only just recently started watching Mad Men, I completely failed to make the connection to Betty Draper. Tonight I just finished watching the episode where OH MY GOD is that Betty Draper shooting at things from her yard!???

So fantastic! Definitely a small glimpse of why she would catch the eye of a man like Don. How awesome.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Ha! This is an awesome story! I'm so glad you shared it! That moment is one of my all-time faves.

Are you enjoying the show?

[identity profile] pennydrdful.livejournal.com 2010-10-07 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, clearly there's a bit of a delay between you posted your comment, and this reply. But let's just pretend that my internet connection is really just that slow ;)

I just finished season one! I'm in love with the show! Poor Peggy!

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-10-07 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Ha! I like that plan!

It's fantastic, isn't it? I love Peggy! I actually need to finish the last few episodes of S2 and then see the rest of S3, and you've encouraged me to do so!

[identity profile] pennydrdful.livejournal.com 2010-10-07 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
You know I really kind of hated Peggy at first. Just for being so damn naive. But then she went and became fucking awesome.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-10-07 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
I know exactly what you mean! I didn't flat-out hate her, but I was annoyed by her and had no real interest in her. But she grows! It's great!

[identity profile] eilowyn.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
I have a love/hate relationship with Betty. She's awesome and fierce but sometimes I just plain don't like her. But the whole show is A_MAY_ZING, so she fits right in with Team Awesome 60's Edition. Enjoy!

This is true.

30 Rock and Project Runway. Werk.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'll be watching PR tomorrow since my cable's out right now, though it would be airing right now. *wistful sigh*

I'm hoping for another Mondo win. I love that kid.

I watched TVD. Because I don't watch Community.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Good episode! I love this show!

You should check out Community if you get the chance--it's genius.

[identity profile] shipperx.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Watched: Big Bang Theory.

That meant I was 30 min behind on Vampire Diaries which means when I switched over I could FF through all of the commercials.

Now I'm watching Fringe (Slightly behind because I was behind on Vampire Diaries.

Community will be OnDemand so I can watch it tomorrow.

Why the frell do they put most of my shows on Thursday?!

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha! That's so complicated! What a struggle!

[identity profile] diamondtook862.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Hi! You forgot Bones!? Also, I never ever watch anything live, ever, but I'd pick tVD if I did. :D

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I don't watch it! And I think a lot of my flist doesn't anymore, either? I haven't heard a lot about it lately, but you're right I forgot it!

:D

I rarely watch things live, actually. It feels funny!

[identity profile] diamondtook862.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
I've heard most giving up on it, which is funny, cause I discovered it last season and loved it, but I have a thing for deep, abiding love that may never go anywhere... I think some people just give up. :)

I kinda can't stand the commercials- and what else am I gonna do underground on the subway? I can't play on LJ! (Though I read more often than not.)

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Speaking personally, I dropped Bones this season out of annoyance with the will they/won't they. But that fact that there is a TON of other awesomer shows on Thursday really helps.

(To answer your question: I download both, but TVD is the one I download through the fastest means possible and watch first. And I have a self-imposed flist-fast until I'm done with the episode to avoid any possible spoilers.)

[identity profile] ahigheroctave.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
TVD for me. I love Community, and Bones for that matter, but TVD is can't miss kind of drama. Plus it's longer. It takes less time for me to just watch Community after, and the CW shows aren't on Hulu. And Bones... it's gone downhill...a lot.

I'm so mad at Elena. And OMG, shaking and crying on Caroline.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed--I'll probably be doing the same all season because Comm.'s much easier to catch up on.

CAROLINE OMG! THAT GIRL.

I don't really blame Elena--after what he did, I would probably do the same. I just keep reminding myself that this is going to make their inevitable reconciliation THAT MUCH BETTER!

[identity profile] ahigheroctave.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
She loves Matt too much to risk hurting him again. Oh, someone should just tell that boy so they can be together without the drama.

I know, this is true, but my love for Damon is making me biased. And their reconciliation better be AMAZING with how angst-fest they are the past few weeks. I kind of think they're setting up Stefan/Caroline too, which scares me.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
I KNOW! That scene where she did what she had to do to get him to break up with her? BROKE MY HEART IN EVERY WAY. OH CAROLINE. All I want is for the two of them to be together and happy. OH OH OH.

I understand. I am very fond of Damon, but not that much of a fan, so it's a bit different for me. I really do think that when they get back together it'll be AWESOME. And worth the wait.

I don't think Stefan/Caroline will happen. His relationship with her seemed very big brotherly. But I can see other people thinking something's going on with her.

I'm pretty much purely invested in Stefan/Katherine, but if he was to have a thing with anyone else, I do think he and Bonnie have weirdly good chemistry.

[identity profile] eilowyn.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty much purely invested in Stefan/Katherine

I actually did not know this about you . . .

[identity profile] zombie_boogie.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
I watch The Vampire Diaries live because I watch Community with the hubby, and he works nights so I have to wait until he gets home. I'm actually relieved because the situation makes the choice for me.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
That is so convenient!

I thought Community was pretty epic, so I think y'all will enjoy it. I'm still shaking and crying over TVD.

[identity profile] zombie_boogie.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, Damon/Elena were so devastating. I mean, I completely understand where Elena is coming from but still... ow my heart. But CAROLINE AND KATHERINE. POSSIBLY TEAMING UP. ALL MY DREAMS COMING TRUE. Yay awesome lady vampires. Now just don't kill them as is your habit, show.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Everything Elena does makes sense for the character and the situation. I love that. And I think the angst is gonna make their eventual reconciliation that much better.

CAROLINE KILLS ME. When she broke up with Matt for his own good? BE STILL MY HEART.

I'd enjoy Caroline and Katherine running around for a while, but I want to see Caroline ultimately be good and happy and bubbly and totally in love with Matt again. And Matt know everything about her and love her still. That's what I want.

If this show kills off anymore women while keeping all the men alive I'm gonna go INSANE.

[identity profile] eilowyn.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 07:08 am (UTC)(link)

Okay, they're gonna pull a Faith and Buffy in season 3, aren't they?

And don't you love how you can shorthand what's happening in other vampire shows with Buffy plots? In S3 of True Blood, Bill goes through a brief Angel S2, we're waiting for a Damon and Elena to pull a Spike and Buffy in Intervention, Katherine and Caroline are gonna do Faith and Buffy . . . good times.

The best. And I love how Buffy is still the gold-standard of vampire tv. Oh, first fandom ilu.

I don't watch either of them - mainly because I haven't had a chance to.

However - the first season of Community has just come out in Australia. Should I buy it, and why?

*is curious, but trying to spend money wisely*

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
It's easily the best comedy on TV right now. I find it excellent in every way, and "Modern Warfare" might be the very best comedy episode I've ever seen.

I don't know about buying it, because I'm super frugal and haven't bought it myself. But if I had the money to spend on things like that I probably would. But you should definitely figure out some way to check it out.
deird1: Fred looking pretty and thoughful (Default)

[personal profile] deird1 2010-09-24 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Well, see, this is the problem. Because of the inadequacies of Aussie TV, pretty much all the TV I watch are things I've already bought.

(Yes, seriously - ALL of it. I bought BtVS, Tru Calling, Farscape, BSG, Sarah Connor Chronicles, AtLA, Castle, NCIS, Mad Men, HIMYM, My Name Is Earl, and countless other shows almost entirely sight unseen. It makes me dubious about getting into new shows...)

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
WHOA!

I download things and then if I like them I buy them, so that kind of blows my mind. But if you're that big into buying them, I'd say it's a good bet. It's excellent.
deird1: Fred looking pretty and thoughful (friends (willow buffy))

[personal profile] deird1 2010-09-24 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it's not entirely by choice. It's actually a fair bit harder to get hold of things in Australia - unless you're way better at computers than I am. So I either have to content myself with the few things that actually get to free-to-air TV over here, or spend far too much money...

Hmm. I might just end up getting this one. (And if I don't like it, I'm going to use a grumpy icon at you, in retaliation.)

[identity profile] andplease.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have cable/a tv so my download que is currently jam packed with all the tv from tonight. But, if I did have a tv, it would be all Community all the way. I've been waiting for the resolution to that cliffhanger with no patience whatsoever. Have a feeling I'm going to feel very unsatisfied after I finally watch it, but ya know. I'll have Big Bang/Bones/everything else to make up for it. (Hopefully.)

[personal profile] next_to_normal 2010-09-24 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Easy. I watched Community because I still have two more episodes of Vampire Diaries season 1 and however much of season 2 has already aired to catch up on. :)

[identity profile] eilowyn.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
West Coast time difference and download for both. So you're probably in bed now that I'm ready to flail, and can't flail with me . . .

[identity profile] ever-neutral.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 09:32 am (UTC)(link)
*bursts into tears*

I CANNOT WATCH EITHER FOR TWO WHOLE WEEKS.

*rocks back and forth*

I'm out of town and have limited Internet connection. :( I'm probably gonna wind up having ~feelings all over you guys' episode posts weeks late. :)

[identity profile] angearia.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Weeks late ~feelings~ are still good! Remember, we're the people who keep talking about BtVS years later.

And holy jeebus, your icon is scary! *wibbles*

I had to choose the last one cause I didn't fit anything else!

Up here, VD was opposite Big Bang Theory (OMG, it was horrible). Anyways, I watched BBT, then waited for the 10pm showing of VD - yay for two different CW stations, east and west coast, on my cable. But then my husband came home 20 minutes in from work.. and wanted to watch BBT before he went to bed. So I ended up missing it again.. download it is.

[identity profile] blackfrancine.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Community! My love for Community is boundless. And also I don't watch TVD. Though. You guys are are making me want to.

The boyfriend wanted to watch it when it first came on, but after watching half an episode, it didn't win me over. I know--I am patient beyond all measure--I gave it a WHOLE half episode (actually, probably only about 10 min. if I'm being honest).

But now y'all are always talking about how great it is, and I feel left out. But then I have to figure out how to get the first season without spending money. And I'll have to persuade the boyfriend to watch it--because he's really weird and stubborn, and now that I said TVD sucked (based on my 10 min. of watching), he's shuffled it into the "sucky" category in his mind. Complicated. TV complicates my life way too much.
