You might be taking it too far, but the comparison seems apt to me. Women have always been persecuted for their emotions--think of how many great feminist texts, from A Room of One's Own to "The Yellow Wallpaper" to The Bell Jar talk about mental health as it relates to womanhood.
I really wish people would stop mandating other people's behavior and emotions. It just... it exhausts me.
