Oh, okay

HAAAAVE YOU MET ____?
A RECOMMEND A FRIEND MEMEMY THREAD HERE

But don't feel an obligation--this is only if there really is someone you think I should be friends with, okay?

Also: Last night! Mondo! Finally! I want that boy to make my clothes! So many colors! Love! Also: tap-dancing!

Oh, and I have an interview at the bookstore on Monday, so that is good. Wish me luck!

And now I'm going to finally watch The Vampire Diaries. YAY!

Good luck with the interview! YAY!

And I look forward to hearing your thoughts about TVD!

Also, I would totally do the recommending thing, but I feel like we know all the same people, maybe. But I'll look into.

Thank you!

I'm super tired tonight, so unless the episode injects me with adrenaline (which it might!), it may be tomorrow before I get around to really talking about it. But of course I will get around to it!

Yeah, I feel the same way--all of the people I really feel like you need to be friends with are your friends already!

It's been so weird this season, hasn't it? I hate Gretchen forever, and I want Valerie to start making pretty stuff because I find her really likable. But Mondo's so weird and makes the most interesting clothes. Although I loved Andy's piece last week--the swimsuit and the cover-up? In that gorgeousgorgeousgorgeous purple? I wanted that.

Thank you!

Congratulations on your interview! As someone who does some of the hiring at the bookstore I work at, here are my (very general) tips:

They are almost definitely going to want people who can work nights and weekends. I have people all the time who want to work some sort of Mon-Fri 8-5 schedule, and....no. This is retail. Nights and weekends are where the business is.

If the interviewer asks you why want to work at a bookstore, try to sound excited about working with customers. I mean, talk about your love for books too, but they're looking for people who are friendly and outgoing and enthusiastic about customer service as well as people who can talk intelligently about books. Also, and I don't think you'd say this, but don't say you want to work in a bookstore because it seems "relaxing" or "laid back". People say this to me ALL THE TIME. From the interviewer's side, this translates into "I'm lazy and I don't think I'll have to work very hard here".

That is my unsolicited advice! Do you mind if I ask if it's an independent bookstore or a chain?

That is really great advice! Thank you! It's especially good because I have no retail experience, so I'll keep that in mind about talking about the customers.

I actually don't mind working nights and weekends--except for Sundays, because that's church/family day for me, but that doesn't matter because it isn't opened on Sundays. It's a Christian chain, which isn't what I'd choose. I mean, I'm Christian, but I'll be honest when I say that the majority of "Christian" products aren't very good. I mean, there's some excellent stuff, but there's also a lot of just nonsense (for instance, the majority of Christian fiction is just...saccharine ridiculousness. Which always makes me angry because so many great writers throughout history were Christians but didn't moralize and whitewash life and so they were actually good. Sorry for the diatribe--this irks me). Plus, I don't really read much non-fiction, so I won't be as knowledgeable at that as I would if I were in another bookstore that has a higher percentage of fiction. But! Books! I like them! And I like helping people find what they're looking for! So that's good.

Again--thank you!
