So I'm catching up on Doctor Who...

And I just finished "Cold Blood" and I need to freak out for a moment.

OMG RORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think I realized how fond I'd grown of him till that moment! But love for him snuck up on me. At first I think with him I was annoyed that they seemed to be repeating the same dynamic as Doctor-Rose-Mickey, but they ended up going in a different direction with Doctor-Amy-Rory, and I learned to really love Rory to death.

And I was not expecting that. Not at all. And I am not happy about stealing more memories from women. It wasn't cool when it was Donna, it isn't cool now. And I realize it's different because this was some force, not a person, making the decision to wipe Rory out of existence. So there's no one to get angry at, except the writers, I guess. But I don't like memory-alteration unless it's handled very, very well. Which I hope it is here and that the show doesn't forget Rory, even if Amy has.

But here's the thing: I'm feeling like I felt when Sirius died in Order of the Phoenix. I remember thinking, "He isn't really dead. He fell through a curtain. That's like...putting him on a bus. He could come back!" And I really thought he would. Of course, he didn't. But I really, really thought he would. And I somehow feel the same about Rory here, though there's no obvious out like there was with Sirius.

For some reason, I can't believe that we'll get to the end of the season and have Amy still forgetting about Rory. This crack that makes you forget is going to be connected to the reason that Amy and the people in her timeline don't remember the Christmas invasion and the Cybermen and everything. And I feel like the Big Moment is gonna be them getting their memories back.

I really do think that's what's going to happen, though I couldn't tell you how it's going to unfold. And I'm super-excited about that; if handled well, that could be an awesome plotline.

And maybe Rory will come back? Pretty, pretty please? *wibble*

In other Who-related musings, I've been thinking a lot about green_maia's Who-thoughts that always make me thinky. And I've been wondering: has anyone written a piece of meta about how the Doctor (at least in nu!Who; I have no idea if this was the case with classic!Who) destroys the people around him? I don't know why, but I think it's significant that Martha is the only one who managed to escape from him relatively unscathed, and that's because she left of her own free will. She walked away (and I love her forever and ever and ever for it). Whereas Donna and Rose were absolutely destroyed by him: their choices taken away. Because they couldn't let go. Because they were made to let go.

And then there's Wilf, who had to see what happened to his granddaughter and has to live with that lie, and Harriet Jones, of course. And Adelaide. And I'm sure there are others, if I took the time to think of them. I actually find Sally Sparrow's ending sad: she's with this guy she never really cared about and just working in that little shop. I wanted more for her. And okay, maybe I really, really shipped her and Billy for the three minutes they were a possibility.

Anyways, I keep remembering Rory's (brilliant) quote about how the Doctor makes people dangerous to themselves. I feel like you could construct a really brilliant meta about this, but the details of it aren't clear enough in my mind, and I'm not into this fandom enough to do it. You could construct a similar one about Angel, and how he makes everyone around him, especially the women, destroy themselves as well.

Anyways, green_maia has touched on a bunch of this in her posts, so if it intrigues you, check there. This is clearly a not-fully-formed thought process.

Now I'm gonna watch "Vince and the Doctor." And hopefully not fall asleep.

Rory rory rory. I love Rory. And I was just as heartbroken as you are. I hope you like Vincent and the Doctor. I thought it was a lovely episode. So much meaning and symbolism and such running through it.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing - fixing the problem with the crack will have to do something. I don't know if it'll end with Rory coming back, or just Amy being able to remember that he's dead, but I'm sure he won't be left forgotten. (And if he is, I will be very cross.)

I actually find Sally Sparrow's ending sad: she's with this guy she never really cared about and just working in that little shop. I didn't get this impression. I loved her and Billy too, but I did feel she definitely cared about that guy. They went through that near-death experience, after all.

I always loved Rory. He kicked so much ass in "The Vampires of Venice". And I think him and Amy totally had an awesome relationship (which Eleven was ultimately intruding on). I have no doubt he'll pop up again, seeing as how the cracks are the huge narrative thing of this series.

I keep remembering Rory's (brilliant) quote about how the Doctor makes people dangerous to themselves. How much do I love this quote. And even more because the fact that the Doctor destroys everyone who cares about him is one of the reasons I adore him. (Yes, and Angel too. *huggles my boys*)
