I can definitely see a picture. Below is the edition I first read, when I was 18, and on holiday in Madeira.

Reading it on a holiday in Madeira sounds lovely! I think Professor Sayers would have appreciated that!

Madeira may have been slightly eclipsed by the book. I remember that towards the end of the holiday I got a bad cold.

But that was okay, because it meant I could convalesce in my room by inhaling GN. Happy days!
