Ace icons
Who are your fictional ace icons?
For the purposes of this, I'm defining ace widely, so anyone ace-spectrum, grey-ace or demi
Here are mine:
+ Sherlock Holmes (aroace, obviously his relationship with Watson is perhaps THE example of queerplatonic-ness)
+ Barbie (aroace the end)
+ The Doctor (more classic who than nu!who)
+ Jiang Cheng from CQL (grey-ace/demi but would just identify as ace. You cannot convince me he's ever been even remotely attracted to anyone except Wen Qing and possibly Wei Wuxian if you want to read it that way. Honestly romantic and sexual matters annoy the heck out of him and he thinks we'd all be better off without them)
+ Wei Wuxian (demi demi demi bicon. Has never been attracted to anyone but Lan Zhan lbr)
+ Emma Woodhouse (another demi demi demi bicon)
+ Jo March (same)
+ Billy Bones from Black Sails (this is practically canon)
+ Momtaz from We Are Lady Parts (I have no proof for this, she just gives me ace vibes)
+ Glisselda from the Seraphina books (homoromantic asexual)
+ Tacy from the Betsy-Tacy books

I'm not even really a Bridgerton fan, but I AM a Creloise fan, and may I just say: if they're not doing romantic Creloise, then I really like the idea of Eloise Bridgerton being aroace and her big relationship of the series being a grand, sweeping, 'let me atone for how I wronged you' friendship love story with Cressida. They could still do it!!!!!! They won't, because it's literally the romance novel TV show. But they could. And it would rule. I just want Eloise to get her 'spinster besties living independently together ever after' endgame with Cressida after the painful realization that it wasn't ever what she was gonna have with Penelope, but that turns out okay in the end. (Disclaimer: I know Eloise had a romance with that dude Theo at some point but I only watched it once and I can't remember him at all so I don't care. ✌️)
Re: another grumpy TV brunette - I've always thought of Liz Lemon from 30 Rock as on the ace spectrum somewhere and I really cherish that about her.
I'm sure I'll have more thoughts about this once I ponder other characters so I might be back later!

Dude, yes! I never even watched this show and yet I totally agree!

Mixed results.

LOL
Mixed indeed! I definitely can imagine them in the future working so much better now that Art has Patrick to sleep with and absorb some of his romantic tendencies (not that he'll turn those off for Tashi, but they'll be spread out more).

Regarding Jiang Cheng: On the one hand, you are absolutely correct, and on the other hand, my one headcanon about Jiang Cheng is that his sexual orientation is cursed, like Roger Rabbit, always to be whatever is funniest at the time.

That is hilarious and I love it.

+ Cassian Andor (Rogue One):"Everything I did, I did for the rebellion." He's an Enjolras type to me; the quintessential rebel whose burning passion is for liberty and the Rebellion. I see him as at least demi veering towards ace but, uh, still romanticif you get my drift.
+ Emma Woodhouse (Emma): I've written about this extensively before!
+ Enjolras (Les Miserables): I've always seen him as ace and been strongly attached to him. "He was the marble lover of liberty. His speech was roughly inspired and had the tremor of a hymn. He astonished you by his soaring. Woe to the love affair that should venture to intrude upon him!"
+ Frodo Baggins (Lord of the Rings): A character I connected with as a teen and whom I've never seen as being involved romantically with anyone. I could also see Bilbo here!
+ Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games): I don't usually think about THG much these days but when I do, I think about ace!Katniss
+ Kaz Brekker (Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom): Ace disaster whom I love; again, I do think he loves Inej and his identity is certainly mixed up with his childhood trauma and severe haphephobia but the one other instance (pre-story) that he tries to have a relationship with someone is forced and because he thinks he should.
+ Luke Skywalker (Star Wars): Luke has this tendency to glomp on to people and care about them a lot but in the movies he never is given a romantic partner and I can easily read the stuff with Leia as him mis-reading their strong connection (relateable, inasmuch as that's possible in a world without the Force!). He has a similarly strong connection with Han.
+ Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter): A character whom I saw a lot of myself in as a tween/teen and who has no definitive romantic relationship i the books (though I will ship Harry/Luna to the end).
+ Minerva McGonagall (Harry Potter): Actual life role model! An inspiration to us all! Also very ace to my eyes (it's kind of funny how all the professors are presented as single when that wouldn't have to be the case at all).

Oh absolutely. Also: same.
These are all so good!
