Anyone live in the St. Louis area or know someone you might connect me with who does? I have a job possibility there and I need to ask some questions about transit, cost of living, etc.

Missouri side or Illinois side? It makes a difference. If you mean the job is in the city itself, you probably want the Missouri side.

My son lives in a suburb on the Missouri side. I have no info about transit, but apartments can be had for $1200-2000 per month for a one bedroom depending on the neighborhood.

I'm in Tulsa and the cost of food and gasoline there seems pretty similar to here, although gas is a bit more.

That is, I cook all the time and spend about $300-400 per month on food for just me. And gasoline runs about $2.80 right now though it's been fluctuating a lot.

Good luck!

He has been there a year and is very happy.

My friend Alicia lived about 30 minutes away in the Stars Hollow of Illinois (with more human rights), so something to consider as well!

It's Edwardsville, IL, and apparently truly is the Stars Hollow of IL and bizarrely charmed compared to the rest of the state. I've never been myself but both Alicia and Walker still wax lyrical about it and miss it terribly.

Protected from weather, charming little town events, everyone is nice, maybe ruled by a demon council that keeps everything perfect like in that X-Files episode, really good food for a small Illinois town including several Indian restaurants, really diverse community at the university, quaint little bookshops, the whole enchilada apparently. Alicia kept trying to get me to take her place at the uni there and I was like "it is too far from the sea, but thank you".
