Fannish Friday: End-of-the-Year Highlights

I don't have much emotional energy for DW today, so tell me something that's happening in the next month or two, fannishly, that you are looking forward to.

For me:

+ Yuletide, always. Reading my gift, but mostly seeing if anyone likes what I wrote!
+ Fandom Trees. New this year! I'm excited to see how it goes.
+ The BBC's yearly holiday Agatha Christie adaptation. This year is Murder Is Easy and I hope it's as good as Why Didn't They Ask Evans? was!

And for something I used to always look forward to but haven't really done the last few years: Big Fat Quiz of the Year. That was my jam. I looked forward to it all year! And yet I haven't watched the last couple of years--I kind of feel like it pulled a GBBO and tapered off in quality. I'd love to see something else replace it!

The MIT Mystery Hunt is in mid-January and I'm already super excited for it. For unknown reasons we were asked to make a team constellation.

I'm also really excited for Festivids reveals even though I'm way behind on making mine.

This month's Planet BNHA theme is Love Languages and I hope to both write my assignment and have time for a few treats - I already got my eyes on a couple of requests I really like!! :D (It's a 300 words minimum exchange... although stories do tend to grow beyond that so we'll see how many I do manage, if any! XD).

I'm hoping Chocolate Box will be running next year and so I think that means nominations should happen this month :)

Snowflake Challenge in January! And while I'm not signed up for Yuletide, looking through the collection is always fun.

[community profile] femslashex work reveals are soon!

Did you end up writing the thing for YT that we talked about? I have just obtained the canon and will be consuming it shortly!

Purimgifts! It's my favorite fandom event of the year, and I can't wait for signups in January. I am compiling a list of Tolkien characters who can plausibly be said to have been persecuted by evil viziers.

Like you, I'm really looking forward to Yuletide, and to Fandom Trees. I love the outpouring of fannish generosity at this time of year, and I really enjoy writing gifts and treats for other people.

I also enjoy Snowflake Challenge a lot — it's great to start the new year with this wave of positivity and enthusiasm, and it's become a fixture on my own calendar.

We're staying home this Christmas instead of travelling to visit Matthias's family in Germany, and one of the things I'm also looking forward to is watching the Agatha Christie adaptation — it's the perfect thing for this time of year!

Also Yuletide! My gift, the reaction to my own fic, reading around my fandoms (I have a feeling it's going to be a good year for some of my fandoms) and reading around the collection (reading fic in a wider range of fandoms than I normally do and seeing the breadth of cool stuff that people create is one of my favourite parts of Yuletide).

The BBC Ghosts Christmas special, which is apparently going to be the last episode. It's such a funny and heartwarming programme—I'll be sad to see it end, but it seems like a good place for it to finish, and of course it's good for a TV programme to get to end on the creators' own terms instead of being suddenly cancelled.

My annual tradition of reading a Rosemary Sutcliff novel in January as the first book of the year. I haven't decided which one to go for next yet...
