lirazel: An outdoor scene from the film Picnic at Hanging Rock ([dh] active)

One last entry before I stop spamming y'all for the evening...

* For anyone who's even slightly Buffy-inclined, may I rec a new fic? Please go here and check out "Imitation of a Man." The first two installments are already posted, and y'all, they are good. Great style, good characterization, and what promises to be an intriguing premise. Basically, it's one of those good, old-fashioned plotty epics (I believe) that we just don't see much of anymore. Also, the second installment has a fresh twist on a very, very popular Spuffy trope. I think you'll enjoy!

Also, I know a bunch of you have a policy against reading WIP, but this is not, in fact, a WIP. It's all already written, but will be posted one installment at a time over the next month or so. So no need to worry that it won't ever be finished!

* The absolutely worst thing about not having a TV yet is that even though I'm actually going to be home tonight, I won't be able to watch the new episode of Dollhouse! Yes, I will be staying up tonight until I can download it. Yes, I will.

If I find it before you I'll send you a link.

Thanks so much! That sounds lovely! I never have a problem finding it, as I...have connections, so to speak, but I really appreciate the offer!

On second thought, my connections have been lagging lately, so if you do find it before me, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks! ;)

[ETA] And again I lie! My little download countdown thing tells me I'm 7 minutes away from Dollhouse-y goodness. Yay!

Yes! I forgot to mention that there's William in it! Apparently! I hope you enjoy!

hee. As soon as I saw the William/Buffy tag, I was sold. You know, for obvious reasons. ;)

Seriously, though, there are so few well written fics with that pairing. I think I only know of about half a dozen, so I'm definitely interested in reading this one. Thanks again. :)

You're absolutely right about their rarity. I have very high hopes for this one, too, since I do love William fic when it's done well.

You're welcome!

Lauren! OMG my DVR didn't record Dollhouse tonight! So when I got home... NOOOOOOOOOO!

In other news, yeah I'll be watching it on Hulu later. :)

OH NO! I hope you've been able to watch it by now! That's truly terrible!

I love your icon so much! And I finally got myself a Topher icon and feel very, very proud!

Hi! Just stopping by to thank you for the rec, which I just found out about this evening.

I really appreciate it. I'm relatively unknown to fandom, and without word of mouth help, I'm sure I'd have fewer readers.

I also want to thank you again for your lovely, in-depth comments on IoaM. They've been a pleasure to read, and I only wish I had time to respond to them more fully.

With grateful regards as I head off to proof tomorrow's installment, Darkapple

You're so welcome! I thought that you were newish to fandom, and even though I don't rec a lot, I always want to encourage any new writers, especially ones who write as well and thoughtfully as you do.

And I love really, really engaging with a good story, so the comments have been a joy. At some point, you'll probably end up getting page-long ones, if I ever have the time! And don't worry about replying--I understand the time thing.

Also, I've been meaning to ask you: is your icon of Carson McCullers? Very cool.

[identity profile] darkapple.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, the icon is indeed Carson McCullers. She alternates with Bernard Malamud as my favorite author.

She was an amazing woman. Wrote The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, which I consider one of the wisest novels of the 20th century, when she was just 22-23 years old. It's so fortunate that she was able to put her genius to work at so young an age, since she also died young.

I thought I recognized her! I'm a big Southern gothic fan--Faulkner, O'Connor, and I love Welty, even though she's less gothic--and I haven't read a ton of her, though I'm very familiar with her by reputation and knew a bit about her life. It's always a shame when we lose a talented writer so young; O'Connor died of lupus fairly young, as well.
