Dear Author Letter: Hurt/Comfort Exchange
Dear Author,
I'm so excited about this exchange! I adore this particular exchange! Hurt/comfort is one of my ultimate tropes, because I love watching a character trying to be strong, being overcome by some kind of vulnerability (physical/mental/emotional/whatever), and someone(s) they love comforting them. So I am certain that whatever you end up writing about some of these favorite characters of mine will be delightful.
This letter is based on my letter for last year so it's possible there might be a few additional tags that aren't in the tagset this year. You can ignore or embrace those as you see fit.
General preferences and thoughts: Whump is not really my thing--I want the comfort to be present eventually, but the hurt can last for a long time if you want (my favorite genre of fic is angst with a happy ending).
I love mutual pining more than anything in the world, but I also really want to see the characters eventually realize their feelings are requited. I really, really love getting together fic.
I am fine with the hurt and comfort being either physical or mental/emotional. With any of them, I'm fine with both characters being hurt even though I didn't request that in most cases.
I also love fic where one half of the ship goes kinda of apeshit when someone hurts their loved one. Especially if you contrast that with gentleness towards their hurt loved one. This isn't necessary--if you want to write something fairly soft about, like, Mirasol taking care of Liapnir or Corie caring for Kent, go for it. But just know if you want to write Attolia going all possessive and getting revenge on someone who hurt her husband or Inej gutting someone who hurt Kaz or whatever...I would be very into that.
I absolutely love canon divergence fic, but I don't enjoy true AUs--I do not want to read fic about the Queen's Thief characters in a high school or about Casey and Derek in space. (OTOH, you can add some kind of apocalypse to any existing canon, and that would be fine with me! Seo Dan surviving the zombie apocalypse? Sure!)
I do not want any actual "onscreen" rape, but any kind of "offscreen" or aftermath of actual rape is fine, as is threat/attempt. I just don't want to have to read about any of my characters actually experiencing it from their pov, okay? Though some non-consensual touching/threats or attempted-but-thwarted are fine to portray "onscreen."
DNWS: PWP (sex is fine, but I don't want to read straight porn), character-bashing, infidelity, "onscreen" rape (attempted-but-thwarted is okay), AUs that change the setting, unmitigated fluff (some fluff is fine, but please temper it with other things), insta!love, humiliation, bathroom humor, OOC, baby fic (meaning fic that focuses on the ship having/adopting a child. Look, Wangxian is made for hurt/comfort. I also lovelovelove WWX's relationship with his siblings, with the Wen siblings, and with the Juniors, so if you want to incorporate them in any way, please do! Obviously this is a great opportunity to make Madam Yu the bad guy, which would be fun, but I do ask that you not make Lan Qiren the bad guy (I have a soft spot for the guy).
If WWX is the one who's hurt, I love the (canonical) way he disregards his own safety, downplays his own pain, assumes that he's the expendable one. It's my catnip to see the people in his life (whether his siblings or his love) say through their actions, "We love you so much, you are precious to us, we hate to see you in pain." But I also love seeing him Protect His People and LWJ being the one who's hurt would make me equally happy.
The freeform tags are just a starting point for Wangxian: basically I will read anything happening to either LWJ or WWX so long as the hurt one(s) get lots of comfort and love at the end. Go as dark as you want to with the hurt part, as long as it's balanced with quality comfort too!

+ Any kind of fic where LWJ and JC have to work together to save WWX and then both of them (in their very different ways) take care of him
+ Someone hurts LWJ and WWX goes full-on Yiling Patriarch on their ass
+ Someone hurts WWX and LWJ has to save him

Maybe I should be embarrassed to even request this but I am NOT. The way these two are so obsessed with each other but can't admit it because of Reasons is so delicious. I would prefer not to have a real AU for them--the fact that they've been living together for years and have all this history is what makes this ship so appealing to me, so I'm not interested in a story where they aren't stepsiblings. Something set during the show (I ignore the movie) or post-show would work equally well for me. And ideally this fic would be a "hurt/comfort leads to getting together" fic because that's my favorite.
Pretty much all of my other fandoms lend themselves to extreme situations; this one really doesn't. So it's fine if the threat level is pretty low (Casey is bullied?), medium (Casey has an abusive partner and Derek protects/saves her), or, if you really want to go crazy, high (idk, somehow Casey and Derek end up in a hostage situation and have to look out for each other and Derek is determined that Casey Will Not Be Hurt?). I just really enjoy Derek being protective of Casey.
If you want to write one or both of them feeling extremely guilty/angsty over the whole step-sibling, that's great, but it's also fine if you have them both say, "Screw it, we love each other."

But I am also open to canon divergence or even an AU of some kind that goes in a different direction than the show.

Bonus points if Irene goes all possessive and destroys whoever hurt her husband. There's so much you could do here with assassination attempts! I love a good assassination attempt!
Alternately, some Kamet/Costis would make me very happy! I don't care who gets hurt or how, I just love them together. I would request that this fic be either pre-relationship (read: mutual pining) or featuring a getting-together scene. I'm really not looking for established relationship fic in this particular fandom because I find it frustrating that we never get to see them get together!
It's very easy to imagine Costis putting himself in harm's way for Kamet; on the flip-side, I would equally enjoy Kamet being the one who's hurt and Costis either rescuing him or having to deal with the fact that he couldn't save Kamet form whatever pain is being inflicted.

I just love how these two are kind of unhinged about each other and everyone knows it but also they don't admit it to each other? Any h/c scenario is just a fantastic opportunity to lean into that imo. So many canon divergence possibilities with this one! I really prefer something that features them getting together, but if you aren't inspired in that direction, that's okay too.

Okay, this particular pairing will probably result in softer fic than most of the others I've requested, and that's fine. Corie and Kent aren't violent people. But they do care so deeply for one another and I'd love some sort of fic that explores that. A canon divergence where one or the other of them is hurt and this leads to both comfort and a Feelings Reveal would be ideal! But if you do want to go a bit darker, that's okay, too.

Basically: see what I said about Corie and Kent and apply it to Mirasol and Liapnir, but stir in some Willowlands if you want!!!
Just a couple of prompts for this one:
+ Canon divergence where Liapnir's brother doesn't send him to the fire monks and instead he and Mirasol end up dealing with life in their demesne under a brutal leader
+ Canon divergence where Liapnir hurts Mirasol more badly than he did in canon
+ Canon divergence where Lipanir or Mirasol are hurt in the battle to save their demesne--maybe the bees attacking the "heir" are not the end of it and the Duke sends more people to try take over.
