Healer Rewatch: Episodes 3 and 4

Just bullet points today!

Episode 3:

+ Episode 1 was narrated by Jung-hoo, episode 2 by Young-shin, and in episode 3 we get some voice-overs from Moon-ho. We see him meet Myung-hee's baby for the first time, which is very sweet. We get some on-the-nose dream sequences, too, but they are effective in communicating what's going on with him.

+ We see him annoy his long-suffering boss/ex, which he should really stop doing. Not that he should stop putting out the kind of stories he's putting out--he should just do it in a different format. Dude, you are the most popular reporter in the entire country! You probably do not have any financial difficulties! Start a blog or a vlog where you take the gloves off completely! Instead of making your ex have to deal with you!

+ I can't remember what his reasoning is for not telling Myung-hee that he's found her daughter. It better be good, dude.

+ Poor Young-shin is being stalked by two dudes. We the audience know that they don't mean her any harm, but that doesn't make it any less okay! Jung-hoo, you are literally under her bed while she's changing clothes! That is gross!

+ Speaking of which, Jung-hoo is so cocky it's ridiculous. You do not have to poke around their apartment while they're in it! Wait till they're gone! Boy!

+ Lovelovelove that Young-shin's dad nudges her to do the right thing and tell Sad Unnie's story. It's so the opposite of what most kdrama parents would do.

+ And she's reluctant, but she ends up doing it anyway. Because Young-shin's conscience is too strong to be defeated by fear!

+ Bong-soo!!!!!!! My love!!!!!!!!!!! Honestly if a guy that beautiful was also that shy and stuttering, I would probably fall in love instantly. I love sweet boys. (Also there is something about his face that reminds me of Myungsoo.)

+ Young-shin the sunbae is hilarious. That is all.

+ Parkour! Lol!

+ Moon-sik continues to be ominous.

+ And I want to give a shout-out to the actor who plays younger!Moon-sik. He isn't given much to do, but his pining is so sincere I feel actual sympathy for him.

+ Jung-hoo's terrible wigs get their own bullet point.

+ Love the ending and Jung-hoo's "Life just got interesting for the very first time." That picture! That unites everyone!

Episode 4:

+ Poor Jung-hoo, having to get up in the morning like a regular person!

+ The way he reacts to find out that the "news site" Young-shin works at is actually a click farm!

+ Young-shin's 100-miles-an-hour explanation for why she can't sleep is hilarious, as is her threatening the copy machine into behaving itself--and it working. HER POWER.

+ Dae-yong has a Confederate battle flag patch on her jacket which grosses me the hell out. I am willing to believe that no one involved in the show has any idea what that actually means, but still. It should not be happening in the 21st century.

+ Moon-ho's utter disdain during the meeting with the media elites is just so delicious. He's so angry. He's so disgusted. He's not even trying to hide it well. And none of them can tell.

They don't make offers to him, nor do they try to persuade him. This is both because they're so used to having their commands followed anad because it genuinely never occurred to them that someone like Moon-ho might be doing what he does because he actually cares about other people. The possibility of that doesn't exist in their universe.

+ Min-ja and her pigtails and her kimbap!!!!

+ Dae-yong is an action star! I don't care about these action scenes, but I do care about Dae-yong.

+ It's been so many years since I watched this show that I legitimately forgot that Jung-hoo's mom abandoned him. It explains so much about him.

+ I had equally forgotten that he maintains a relationship with her and she acts like nothing ever happened. She has another family now and the fact that Jung-hoo is willing to still keep her in his life is just...a lot. He's a good son.

+ When I see Young-shin drunk and talking about dinosaurs, all I can think of is Brave Girls singing "술버릇...!" (Favorite kpop song of 2021!) But she's an adorable drunk, even if I harbor a lot of judgment in my heart about Korean business culture's alcohol problems.

+ You can tell how much culture has changed in less than a decade that Jung-hoo spends some time trying to catch a taxi instead of calling a ride share.

+ They're so physical with each other right from the beginning, always touching each other. It's a bit uncomfortable when he's mandhandling her when she's drunk but also...how else is she going to get home? (People! Don't get drunk in public! Wait till you're in a safe place so other people don't have to go to the trouble of trying to get you home!)

+ The fact that her dad immediately begins singing with her when she starts singing, drunk off her ass, is just the most endearing thing in the world.

+ "Let's create some trouble right now! Something only a human can do!"

+ The way the show makes you (and Jung-hoo) think that Appa and his partner are going to give him a shovel talk, when actually they're just making sure he has the right information to take care of Young-shin is both hilarious and touching.

+ Ji Chang-wook is so underrated as a comedian. His physical comedy is just the very best. Everything about the way that Bong-soo moves has me in stitches.

+ Sad Unnie is so brave and I love her.

+ The way Young-shin kicks Jung-hoo out of bed is so funny.

+ The depth of Young-shin's trauma makes her resilience and humor so beautiful to me.

+ This show is the ur example of the "I sleep better next to you" trope. No fanfic writer could do better (as new viewers will see in upcoming episodes).

+ "We were childhood sweethearts who were separated for a long time" is one of the Three Original Kdrama Tropes, but it actually works on this show instead of feeling like it's shoe-horned in. The interconnectedness of all this stuff is the point.

+ I really truly feel sorry for Moon-ho's hoobae. The kid doesn't stand a chance.

+ Moon-sik is so evil!

+ And now we've got our three mains together in the same room for the first time since 1992. It gives me feelings.

+ The way Jung-hoo constantly puts himself physically between Young-shin and danger is the stuff of shippy dreams.

+ This is what I'm talking about when I talk about Superman: are we supposed to believe that Jung-hoo is carrying around a leather jacket, good fighting shoes, and a hoodie in his briefcase and has time to whip into a telephone booth and change? WHO CARES!

+ (But seriously, all they had to do was have him carry a backpack instead and I would have happily believed he was carrying around his change of clothes!)

+ The way he takes a break to do a horizontal bar routine in the middle of an alley has me in stitches.

+ The schmoopy love song playing during the fight scene is SO of the moment in kdramas...in 2014/2015.
skygiants: Nice from Baccano! in post-explosion ecstasy (maybe too excited . . .?)

The physical comedy around Bong-soo is SO good, every time I rewatch the show I'm like 'okay I'm enjoying the first two episodes but WHEN IS IT BONG-SOO TIME'
