Strange New Worlds episode 1 liveblog!!!!
HERE WE GO!!!!
+ That first minute was perfect. The fake-out with the first contact and then it was another world!!!! I LOVE IT. What a perfect beginning!
+ Hi Wynonna Earp!
+ Pike's angsty beard of pain is cracking me up. Love that we get to see him with horses, eating pancakes and watching '50's B-movies like the good Montana boy he is.
+ I would have preferred Pike finding out that Number One is in trouble and immediately agreeing to find her, because I ship it, but I know we're meant to see how rattled he was by what happened over on Discovery, so I'll allow it.
+ T'PRING!!!!! I love her actually! Girl got what she wanted and did it with flawless logic! Obviously she and Spock aren't meant to be because Spock's going to meet his soulmate/husband soon, but I still like her a lot and am glad to see her. I did not expect that!
+ "Spock, are you naked?" "No, but he was about to be." lol
+ "That should have been a query." Good line.
+ THE SHUTTLE IS NAMED AFTER STAMETS OMG I JUST TEARED UP
+ I use the TOS communicator whistle as my text message alert on my phone, and I just heard the sound and looked at my phone...and I think it must have been a background sound in the episode!!!!
+ Chief of security is a Khan descendant!!!! LOVE IT.
+ They just called Uhura "the prodigy"!!!!
+ Ethan Peck does not have the right Spock energy imo, but in fairness, no one but Mr. Nimoy could ever have the right Spock energy, and I do like the character he's playing, even if he's not my Spock. +100 points for the look on his face in response to Pike's "I'm all ears."
+ I like that Pike's main concern is not the horrible stuff that's going to happen to him in the future, but the fact that he thinks that his experience will affect his ability to lead well. I really hate TOS!Pike, but I really like this Pike, so I'm hoping his character won't be ruined.
+ M'BENGA! A good choice to bring this character back!
+ This is a very different take on Christine Chapel than I expected, but I think I'm going to like her.
+ Scratch that: I know I like her.
+ "Welcome to Enterprise." Sounds about right!
+ Uhura and Chapel meeting!
+ "Screw General Order 1." O_O
+ "Take me to your leader." lol
+ I really like La'an too.
+ The Second Civil War stuff is hitting hard today
+ TOS was always violating the Prime Directive so I kind of like that this show starts off doing the same thing.
+ Sam Kirk's mustache is the worst thing I've ever seen.
That was good! It didn't blow me away, but I really like all the characters they've introduced (so many cool women!), and I like the somewhat lighter tone, and I like that it looks like it's going to be more episodic. I think this is the kind of thing ST needs right now, and I'm hopeful that this series will be just what I was waiting for.
Thoughts on characters pasted from Tumblr, may repeat some of the things I said above, apologizes for lack of capitals:

+ una is una and i know hbic is way outdated terminology but she IS
+ baby!uhura is perfect. she’s a little bit more smiley and not as confident as tos!uhura, but that’s okay: she’s just a cadet! and a prodigy! baby!
+ la’an is going to my woobie, i can already anticipate this. love her accent and her last name.
+ chapel is a completely different character than tos!chapel and they really should have just given her a different name, but i like the character a ton she’s going to be so fun. i loooove the idea of the chaotic energy coming from a nurse lol.
+ ortegas better get more screentime going forward because i love the actress’s presence.
and i think i’m going to like the guys too!
+ of course we already know that i loved pike on discotrek. if they write him like they did here, i will continue to love him. i hate tos!pike so they better not go in that direction.
+ ethan peck does not seem like spock to me (but in fairness, literally no one but mr. nimoy could ever seem like spock to me), but again, i like the character he’s playing, so that’s fine.
+ m’benga was always an underrated fave on tos, so i’m really glad they’re bringing him back. hope to see more of him going forward.
+ the fact that the other main male character is going to be an alien is GOOD. you can never have enough aliens on the bridge afaic. i hope i love him half as much as i love saru.
+ oh and the surprise arrival at the end cracked me up so much.
