The Expanse S4

Random thoughts, no order

i love that this show embraces the weird. what’s the point of scifi if you don’t make up weird shit? like when miller took over that weird metal thing and elvi was pulling him towards the eye of an angry god? that’s my kind of shit.

this show has the scifi production values i always deserved

i wish it had half the enthusiastic fandom that bsg did. this show is so much better than bsg.

it’s just so weird being so satisfied with the narrative choices?

i mean i still think holden is a snooze of a protagonist, but oh well

oh my other complaint: why miller? why could julie be the one leading this thing? or why not both of them? what i’m saying is that i miss julie mao.

i liked chrisjen’s arc. she makes some wrong decisions and gets called out for it (and pays for it) and yet you still like her and root for her. it was easy for us to see her husband pulling away from the power-hungry side of her, but it’s also easy to believe that she would miss that it was happening.

i didn’t like bobbie’s plotline this year. (and i thought her interactions with her nephew felt very weird and not at all familial?) i wish she’d gone on the roci with the crew or at least go to work for chrisjen. but now i think this season will be an interesting foundation for whatever she does next season.

speaking of which: BOBBIE AND CHRISJEN ARE GETTING THE BAND BACK TOGETHER. i’m so pleased!

 drummer+ashford bffs forever!!!!!!

except not forever. i HATE that he died, but i think it was an appropriate narrative choice. i’m so used to showrunners making bad decisions about who to kill off and how and when that it’s almost comforting to be like, “yeah, okay,” about a death, even if i’m going to miss ashford like crazy.

next season: drummer on the warpath! i hope she and naomi team up to take out marco. he’s pretty but he needs to die.

how can naomi have a son that old?

why can’t everyone just leave the belters alone and let them live?

i hated that amos had to kill wei, but it was always going to end up there, wasn’t it?

last season, amos told us straight-up that he’d never been scared. or hadn’t been scared in years? whatever. at this point he doesn’t think he’s capable of feeling fear. except he WAS. i kind of wish that had been explored more?

burn gorman gives such good sociopath

i don’t totally understand marco’s plan but i guess that’s something to figure out next season

i would like to request anderson dawes come back next season because i miss jared harris.
