dear yuletide writer

Another year, another Yuletide! Whether you're an experienced pro or trying out Yuletide for the first time, I hope you have a fantastic time writing. I always find that the writing is the most enjoyable, rewarding part of Yuletide and I hope you feel the same way. Thanks so much for agreeing to write for one of my fandoms! Of course you don't have to choose any of the prompts here, but I know they can be helpful, so I hope some of my thoughts below will inspire you.

Enter your cut contents here.
Some quick general thoughts:
+ Please no other-world AUs where Miranda, et al are modern day high schoolers or the Bronte sisters work in a modern coffee shop or something. AUs that explore what-if's within the same canonical world are great though! (I think we're calling this canon divergence.)
+ Also great: missing scenes, future fic, etc.
+ No pwp please! Sexual content is fine, but I don't want a fic focused on it.
+ Go as angsty as you want, but I do prefer a mostly happy ending.
+ Crossovers are fine if you go through my tumblr and know I'm into the fandom and the character(s) involved.
+ Never worry your fic is too long! If you want to write a novel, do it! Though of course don't feel the pressure to write something massive either.
+ Have fun!

Some things I like: mutual pining, (post-)apocalyptic AUs, happy marrieds, couples who are good to each other, focus on female friendships, unreliable narrators, location/setting as character, good people trying to do the right thing, competent women, women mentoring each other, wordplay, hurt/comfort, outsider povs, friends-to-lovers, found families.

Things I hate: cheating/infidelity, humiliation, embarrassing scenarios, fridging, broad humor, bathroom humor, non-con, incest (Tina/Mickey doesn’t count imo).

Picnic at Hanging Rock (TV 2018)
Irma Leopold (Picnic at Hanging Rock (TV 2018)), Marion Quade (Picnic at Hanging Rock (TV 2018)), Miranda Reid (Picnic at Hanging Rock (TV 2018))

Either Miranda/Irma/Marion or Miranda+Irma+Marion is great with me. I love my OT3! However, if polyamory makes you uncomfortable or you just aren't inspired in that direction, friendship fic about them would also be lovely.

I do read Miranda as ace, and if you want to work that in in a period-appropriate way, you're more than welcome to. If you decide to go the friendship route instead of the shippy one, mentions of Marion/Greta are fine though I'd prefer if the fic didn't focus on that relationship.

Some possible plot ideas to get you started:

+ Instead of disappearing at Hanging Rock, the three of them run away together from the picnic to start a new life together
+ A fill-in-the-blank story about how their friendship really came about. I can see how Miranda and Marion would be drawn together, but I bet it took a lot more to get them to bond with Irma.
+ An AU where the Incident didn't happen and instead the three of them have to figure out how to live their lives honestly after they graduate from school.
+ How they fell in love is always a good idea!
+ Anything that fleshes out Marion's relationship with her heritage on her mother's side would be appreciated
+ Anything that explores the more supernatural/gothic side of the story

Ordeal By Innocence (TV)
Hester Argyll (Ordeal By Innocence (TV)), Jack Argyll (Ordeal By Innocence (TV)), Mary Durrant (Ordeal By Innocence (TV), Tina Argyll (Ordeal By Innocence (TV))

SIBLING FIC. Is what I want. I fell in love with what we saw of these kids' relationships. That image of them laying in the garden smoking after Mary's wedding just fills me with joy. I love that even though each of them are carrying around a lot of trauma and even though they hurt each other (and lash out at each other in the aftermath of their mother's murder), they still clearly care very deeply about each other and could be really good to each other. I'd love fic that explores the complicated nature of their characters and their relationships; I don't mind if they end up being cruel to each other as long as there's that underlying bedrock of caring that they come back to in the end.

I left off Mickey because he's least interesting to me of the five kids, but please include him if you want. I'm also open to some Christina/Mickey if you feel like it, though I'd rather that weren’t the focus of the fic. I'd prefer fic where Jack is alive, so either pre-miniseries or an AU where he's not dead.

Prompts:

+ The other four Argyll kids decide that no, Jack definitely didn't kill their mother, and they work together to find out who did and manage to do it before Jack is killed in jail and he’s exonerated and released
+ The kids find out about Kirsten being Jack's birth mother in some other way and have to deal with the implications
+ AU where they decide to murder their parents together, if you want to go super dark
+ AU where the other four decide that Philip is a jerk and band together to keep Mary from marrying him (and it works). Or rescue her after the marriage goes wrong.
+ Fic about them growing up together, dealing with the trauma of an abusive mother and negligent father, creating their own little world to live in.

To Walk Invisible (2016)
Anne Brontë (To Walk Invisible), Charlotte Brontë (To Walk Invisible), Emily Brontë (To Walk Invisible)

I love the Brontes. I love their writings and I love them as people and I love their relationships with each other. But I picked To Walk Invisible as the fandom and not RPF because I don't want a writer to feel like they have to be a Bronte expert to write me fic. If all you know about the sisters is the (excellent) movie and some wikipedia-ing, I will not complain about historical details. If, however, you're an aficionado, showing off your knowledge would be delightful afaic.

I'd prefer some kind of fic that focuses on the relationship between all three, but if you want to pick just one or a combination to focus on, that would be fine as well.

I'll throw this out: a thing I especially loved about the movie was how well it depicted the rage that really drove both Charlotte and Emily (Anne to a lesser extent, both because of her personal temperament and because she was younger). That anger is so understandable to me because you have three ridiculously intelligent and talented young women (I mean I don’t like to overuse the word genius, but come on) who are so boxed in by societal expectations, gender roles, and economic concerns. Of course they're angry. Emily pulls away from people, Charlotte is ready to fight anyone anytime, and Anne is more of the peacemaker.

I don't really have any prompts for you, but I'll say that sisterhood, writing, love of nature, religious faith, proto-feminism, mental health issues, etc. are all wonderful themes to explore.

Include Branwell if you like, but please don’t let him take over everything. He had a tendency to do that. Asshole.

Happy writing!
