Does anybody else think that the reason they kept Benedict Cumberbatch's role in the new Trek movie a secret is because they knew people would be incredibly pissed at this white guy taking Ricardo Montalban's place and they didn't want to deal with the fallout until they were able to say "Oh, it's too late, we already filmed it"?
Eh, I don't know. Not because I am any less cynical than you, but because I can't remember a single instance where a backlash against whitewashing has resulted in the recasting of a role. Especially when it's a popular franchise where they know millions of people will go see it no matter who's in it. Granted, I haven't been following this at all, since I was never a Trek fan, but I can't imagine that fallout re: casting would be more than a blip on the radar.
I was pleased with Mark's reaction, too, lol. He was starting to worry me when he had a WTF reaction to the idea of Spike having feelings for Buffy, so I'm SO glad that FFL sold him on it.
It seems like Vampire Diaries' goal in life right now is to remind me of why I hate love triangles. IT IS WORKING
UGH, right?? Which is tragic, because one of the things that drew me in is that they were SO GOOD at having a triangle but not making it a cliche-ridden mess. I am clinging to hope that it's all setting up some kind of subversion where Elena doesn't choose either brother, because it's so heavy-handed that I can't even believe we're supposed to take it seriously.
I am also having Bonnie/Jeremy feels. I don't know what to make of that.
