I can't say she was a direct formative influence for me, because I wasn't introduced to the film/text until I was a bit older, but I do love her dearly. And I loved this post. It resonated a lot with me (especially this: Like Jo, my mind came alive, especially at night, with voices and stories and friends as dear to me as any in the real world. I still make up stories in my head when sitting around sometimes all the times). My "Jo" was probably Anne Shirley for very similar reasons - here are girls who dare to not only dream, but vocalize those dreams. To be loud and brash and want. I think that's so important for young girls to see, because there is so much pressure to be narrowly defined and... small. (Anne was also an only child, whose childhood and young adulthood resonated with me in a lot of ways for I'm sure very similar reasons as to why Jo's relationship with her sisters meant so much to you).
