I love the depth that classical/biblical allusions can bring to a piece. I completely agree. It's really under-used in fic. I read a nu!Trek fic once about Chekhov reacting to Amanda's death, and it was full of iconography and references to Mary and general Russian Orthodox awesome. It made my whole day.
