Lessie exists more to be a best friend and accomplice to Dawn. I wanted her to have real friends, not just people she inherited from Buffy.

I'm interested to know why you thought that, though--do you assume that about every OC? Because I thought listing her fairly far down the list of major characters would be a big hint that she wasn't going to take over the story. I kind of wanted to avoid having people think that.

but shouldn't she be an adult and just talk to her sister about Spike being alive? Isn't it a big problem when other people make Buffy's decisions for her?

Well, yes, sure, she should. But there are a bunch of reasons why she didn't.
A) If she had, there wouldn't be a story.
B) This fic is, for me, basically about Dawn learning to grow up a little. Learning that exact lesson--that as an adult, it's better to confront things in that way.
C) My Dawn is devious. She likes the plotting and the planning. Besides, she's been around Andrew and Lessie too much. They bring out her wily side!

I think the attention she got from the immortal for her hard work and cleverness was really cute.
I'm glad!
