actual conversation with my little sister: part 2

Her: Did you watch Vampire Diaries this week?
Me: Yeah.
Her: How was it?
Me: Good. Craziness happened. But craziness happens every week.
Her: Good! I'm getting ready to stream it now.
Me: What did you think about Damon kissing Elena?
Her: Loved it. I always liked him better. Didn't you love it?
Me: ...Yeah. I did.

wha

THERE IS.....A UNIVERSE IN WHICH ELENA/DAMON (AND DAMON IN GENERAL) ISN'T TERRIBLE AND AWFUL AND HORRIFYINGLY MISOGYNISTIC??

I mean, I was so icked out by the events of the season premiere back in September that I dropped the show like it was made out of wriggly slimy abusing-all-the-ladies-at-every-turn worms, so what do I know, but I am startled and perplexed. My world has been thrown off its axis. ENLIGHTEN ME, LAUREN.

I'm not saying it's a healthy thing, because it isn't. But I have gotten back to shipping them in a twisted way. It's Stefan that's been treating her like she doesn't matter lately, like she's just an object in his games with Klaus (he forced her to drink his blood this episode and said he was going to turn her into a vamp if Klaus didn't back down) so at this point I don't think anyone can claim he's a better choice. Damon's still not a good guy, he's never been a good guy, but that's not the point. I don't think they're going to get together and it be functional and sweet or anything, but they've got a fantastic dynamic in a very dark way. He understands her darkness in ways no one else does, and her fascination with him is at least half fascination with death. It's pretty awesome.

I mean, I'm still grossed-out by people who think Damon is a decent person because: not. But I like to wrong-ship them.
