I really, really loved Black Mirror. Then again, I'm a fan of edgy. Not so much for the effect itself, it's just a way of storytelling, a tone if you may say it that way, that appeals to me. I like horrific, extraordinary and brilliant and I think good edgy does that, even if it doesn't pursue a bigger, more important or transcendental objective. That said, I think I was more impressed by that storytelling and how it was accomplished -- it is definitely a piece of art, this show -- than by any bigger meaning it could have.
I mean, I get what you say, I totally do. It's just that, for me, most of the things it made me think about, I had already thought in the past. That's not to say it wasn't good and brilliant, cause it fucking was and I have been recommending it to every single person I can. I think it has to do with having been into this topic (technology and media and etc and their relationship with us) for so long, having even studied some of this at university, have been involved in discussions in the past -- point is, I was familiar and although the way it asked those questions or laid those topics on the table was brutal and raw and every freaking thing I love, the message itself didn't feel as shocking. It is amazing, though, and I would recommend it to everyone and I bet it impresses many people with the message.
Funnily enough, though, the third episode upset me way more than the second one. I'm not a big fan of the second one. I think it's amazing, and compared to every other show, it's still brilliant. It's just that I think the first one is hella shocking and the second one pales in comparison. I'm fascinated with the third one. I think I told one of my friends this way: "The first episode is the one I love as a viewer. The third one is the one I would've liked to write." And to this day, it stands true. I think it's messed up in a more subtle, or less over the top if you may, way, and it worked so well for me. Although overall I was just HOLY FUCK HOLY FUCK THIS IS BRILLIANT with the whole show, lmao. I'm sounding here as if I don't think the show is brilliant but it definitely is! Freaking piece of art and I would kill to be involved in this kind of piece of art anytime in my life.
Soooo glad you watched this! I wasn't sure whether to recommend it to you or not because I know it's not for everyone, but I am so happy you enjoyed it and think so highly of it!
ps. Because the post is super long I'll read the under the cut later, because you caught me writing and I don't wanna lose my Muse. So this was basically a reply to the part of the post that's for everyone to see!
