I haven't seen the fallout yet, either, really, though I suspect it'll be...unfortunate. But Julie's relationship was definitely on the squick side for many reasons. I mean, I'm 19, in college, and I still feel weird calling profs by their first name--but Julie is...what, 15? 16?, and far, far too comfy with her high school teacher--who wasn't pulling back the way he should have been. Just, blech. Tami was certainly right in confronting the matter, despite the flaws in her execution.
I suspect that that's exactly what they were doing--trying to draw in more viewers. Unfortunately, better shows have failed on those same grounds :\
