Was her accent fake? Sometimes I can tell fake British accents--Juliet Landau's is horrible, but Drusilla's so awesome that you forgive her for it--but I hadn't picked up on it with Bela.

Though there is possibly nothing that annoys me as much as fake Southern accents, so I can understand being incredibly distracted by Bela.
