lirazel: An outdoor scene from the film Picnic at Hanging Rock ([btvs] this is my happy icon)

this post is really for Erin

So my BFF is watching Buffy for the first time, and she is loving it. Yay! I met up with her today and she returned Seasons 3 and 4 to me and I passed along Seasons 5 and 6 to her. And of course I asked her what she thought about the show.

So she told me lots of things, and then she goes, "And OMG, I love Spike." And she started telling me all the things she loves about him--how he has the best lines, how he manages to meld the best qualities of hero and villain, etc.

And then she goes:

"And I really love his ambiguities."

And I really love his ambiguities.

And I really love his ambiguities.

And I just needed to share that.

YAY!!!!! Sharing BtVS with someone who ends up loving it just as much as you do is SUCH A GOOD FEELING. Sharing it with someone who loves Spike just as much as you do is EVEN BETTER. Does she know spoilers for the rest of the seasons? Does she know about Spuffy?

It makes me so happy! She admitted that she liked Buffy/Angel more than she thought she would, but she said she thought she was projecting, which made me laugh a lot. She does adore Spike, though, so I'm holding out for her to love the Spuffy.

And I don't think she does know? She doesn't hang out in fandom-y places on the internet, so there's not a lot she does know. She's guessing that something bad happens to Joyce (which I did not confirm, but I was proud of her for guessing), and she wanted to know if Riley would leave since he's boring, and then she asked if Spike would be around. She said, "I was so angry in Season 3 when there was no Spike!" And when I confirmed that he would be around, she was very happy. So I want to see her FREAK OUT when the Spuffy stuff starts happening. I think she will, and I will live vicariously through her since I was spoiled out of my mind when I watched the show.

There is a reason why she is your BFF. *nods* Well done, bringing another over to the dark side. Mwahaha. Your toaster is in the mail.

She sent me an email yesterday saying that I bring the best things into her life and thanking me for liking awesome things. And I was like, "Thank YOU for liking awesome things!" Mutual admiration society.

Oooh! Toaster! Is it Boomer or Caprica Six? ;p

There's nothing more beautiful than when friends get Spike. I remember exactly where I was when my bff said "I get the Spike thing."

And it's Intervention week over at [livejournal.com profile] fantas_magoria! This is a good day to be in fandom.

My 13-year-old son is watching for the first time and is totally loving the series. He's not particularly invested in the romance part - icky, for another couple of years - but he loves Spike. He hasn't been as articulate about WHY, however!

Spike's ambiguities - the romanticism, the atavism, the sincerity, the wickedness ... oh, yeah.
