And yes, Spike/Buffy (especially Spike and his all-consuming mostly-unrequited love) just absolutely rip my heart out. I thought it might be a little much with all the Spike/Buffy going on here, too, when it's supposed to be him and Veronica, but I just don't see him ever not being in love with her, and I think that would affect anything else that happened in his life. Like, ever.
And I'm pleased you could say that about the prompt. I didn't really know how to work it in and I didn't think I did it very well, so I'm terribly pleased it didn't stick out (also? I just wrote "stink out" instead of stick out, which amuses me for some reason).
