I guess I've just read some books by colonized people that were indeed marketed as fantasy as opposed to magical realism, and, on the other hand, I've seen some very Western works labeled as magical realism, so perhaps I've just seen mislabeling. It's certainly possible.

This is an interesting idea. I'm not educated enough to know if it's the case, but it wouldn't surprise me if there was some of this going on--sort of turning those writers into the Magical Negroes of the literary world?
