Sometimes Bonnie thinks it’ll never be like it was before. Caroline will make a sudden movement that’s far too quick for human eyes to track, or she’ll make some joke with Stefan about her favorite flavor of bunnies, or Bonnie will pause in the middle of whatever battle they’re fighting this week and glance up to see black eyes and blood and fangs where her best friend’s face used to be. And when that happens, she’ll feel like she’s going to choke on the strangeness of Caroline now, on the utter certainty of her otherness, her not-a-human-anymore-ness.

But the are other times when Damon is an ass—inappropriately flirting with Elena, playing too casual with human lives, stroking his own ego--when Caroline catches her eye and heaves a sigh accompanied by a rolling of her eyes, and it’s exactly, exactly like it used to be.
