I remain contented that Spike fulfills the role in Buffy's life of Confidant - even for the hard stuff. There isn't anyone else in her life that fills this role, and I'm grateful Buffy recognizes Spike is that person for her.

I would posit that Spike ends up in basements because the windows are smaller.
