lirazel: An outdoor scene from the film Picnic at Hanging Rock ([misc] twilight for the fail)

I'm waiting....

Replies to my last few posts are forthcoming (I've loved all of y'all's thoughts!), but first:

I am disappointed in y'all! No one on my flist has posted about the new Season 8 preview? I need y'all's thoughts! Your fury or excitement! Where's the drama?

Come on. With the way y'all are not talking, you'd think you had actual lives or something.

I hated the comics from the very first issue, but I am heartened to see that it's apparently an Angel of ~the future~ rather than the regular article. Because honestly, Twilight is the worst. I still can't get over that gross line about how he and Buffy are meant for each other "which is why they can't be happy with anyone else." Fuck you, Joss.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Your thoughts are my thoughts. I'm not the world's biggest Angel fan (I like him when he's interacting with Cordy or Connor, I find him fascinating when he's interacting with Darla or Spike or Dru, other than that, I just don't invest in him very much, though I think he's a very well-done character), but the whole characterization of him here just infuriates me. Even though I've had some major moral issues with some of his decisions before, the whole Twilight thing takes it to a new level that makes me offended on behalf of all the Angel fans out there.

I still can't get over that gross line about how he and Buffy are meant for each other "which is why they can't be happy with anyone else." Fuck you, Joss.

NO KIDDING. I kind of want someone to write crackfic where Cordy pops into Joss's office and is like, "Seriously?" and gives him a good talking to. Nobody can give a good talking to like Cordy.

[identity profile] eleusis-walks.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah so like the idea that this is the broken Angel of a dystopian future works for me. But I still don't buy that Angel would ever, ever dismiss Cordy like that. So either he's manipulating Buffy or Joss has just not bothered to watch his own show -- which I honestly think is likely, given all the continuity errors in these comics.

I think Cordy would be above it. She would just be like 'that guy again? Jeez.'

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that idea works for me, too. I can buy that. What I can't buy is: A) him reaching that point without a whoooooole lotta other things happening (that we would need to be, like, told about), B) reaching that point while Connor is still alive, or C) dismissing Cordy that way, as you say. In addition, I can't buy that this is anything but evil and wrong, and I feel like the text is trying to present it as justified. If the text acknowledged it as screwed up and everything, I'd go with it. But you can't justify this stuff to me.

which I honestly think is likely, given all the continuity errors in these comics.

No kidding.

Ha! Then we'd get to see Cordy's awesome "Pffft!" face again! I love that one! Basically, I just love Charisma's face in general.

WHEN I HEARD ABOUT THIS I WAS WALKING IN NEW YORK AND TIMOTHY TOLD ME ABOUT THAT PART AND I STARTED SCREAMING IN THE MIDDLE OF STREET. DO YOU PEOPLE WATCH YOUR OWN SHOW?

[identity profile] eleusis-walks.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
i mean joss never liked angel but does he even watch BUFFY?

because buffy was pretty happy with spike at the end

[identity profile] anythingbutgrey.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
oh my god they parodied the eclipse poster.

OH MY GOD. LOL FOREVER.

this icon now applies to so many things involving twilight. i can't believe the fuckery these s8 comics have brought to the world. i have so much rage in me and i've read FOUR of them in total. and oh look i am literally talking about this on tumblr as we speak.

BUT REALLY WHAT IS THIS SHIT HOW IS IT ALLOWED TO EXIST?

[identity profile] anythingbutgrey.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
i can't. this entire. this man. i can't. i am just so mad i can't even form complete sentences to talk about it. and we know how rare that is.

what the actual fuck. it's all i can think. on repeat. loudly.

[identity profile] eleusis-walks.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
you know what actually i hate about the s8 comics more than anything else?

skinless alive warren

because absolving willow of murder retroactively is the absolute most disgusting thing

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
I do think that the Twilight parody is legit funny, even if it doesn't quite work.

But S8 is RIDICULOUS and I imagine that EVERY SINGLE THING about it makes you angry, and rightfully so.

[identity profile] anythingbutgrey.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
i didn't even know about that.

i swear, everything sunnydale touches just gets all sorts of messed up. this is why i can't bring myself to re-watch btvs. i'm still too ragey over the stunts they pull.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
TRUFAX.

I think we've basically decided that Joss decided he had this story to tell, and he wasn't going to let a little thing like continuity or characterization or sense-making interfere!

[identity profile] eleusis-walks.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
yeah he was saved from death by Amy Madison and together they wreak vengeance on Willow

so Willow gets to stop feeling bad about having killed a guy

fuck Willow, fuck her forever

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with this statement.

And apparently when people pointed out that WARREN IS DEAD, Joss said something like, "Oh, I forgot." WHAT.

[identity profile] eleusis-walks.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
it's in the letters column. he straight up says 'i forgot the first evil impersonated him; let's say he was clinically dead for a minute' when asked how it could have happened if warren wasn't really dead.

[identity profile] anythingbutgrey.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
at least somewhere in there is a vague sense of humor.

i just can't. i mean, really my knowledge of s8 is related to ships of various combinations because oh look where do my interests lie, but i have also been informed of angel's characterization as a whole and as a giant raging angel fangirl, i am pissed.

i think i'll end up comment stalking this post because your flist will be raging about many of the same things i rage about, albeit from a different angle. i will wait and provide support through gifs. i have a whole collection of lilah morgan ones now from tumblr. :D

I am angry on behalf of the Angel fans. I really, really am. Y'all don't deserve this.

There are a few people on my flist who still think there's a chance that Joss will salvage the whole thing. I really do applaud their optimism, even if I can't agree. But yeah, most of us will be all OMGWTFBBQ?!?!? about everything. We even started an entire community dedicated to snarking about S8.

I look forward to your Lilah gifs!

Sorry! I didn't know there was a preview, but now that I've read it, I pretty much have no idea what to make of it. It doesn't make any sense to me, though I suppose it doesn't make any less sense than what we've already gotten.

[identity profile] shipperx.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Joss has just not bothered to watch his own show -- which I honestly think is likely, given all the continuity errors in these comics.

Yeah, I sometimes suspect that everything after when he began conceptualizing Firefly went down the memory hole.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
I was mostly kidding, hoping Emmie or Maggie would pop up and be like, "OH THIS WAS FORESHADOWED TWELVE ISSUES AGO" or something. I don't know what to make of it either, but you're right about the level of sense-making. I can't say I'm fond of the talking dog thing, but whatever. We've definitely seen equally silly things before.
snickfic: Buffy looking over her shoulder (Giles Xander fascinating)

In which I am snarky and clueless

[personal profile] snickfic 2010-08-27 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
I am ahead of the comics curve! Look at me!

I'm guessing this preview is explaining to us how NFA ended, right? Which would contradict A:ATF (assuming I'm correct in my non-existent grasp of A:ATF). Interesting. 'Cuz we've all wanted to know how much the DH and IDW comics related to each other. Or else, as someone else says, it's Angel of the Future.

Gotta say, the dog sounds more like he's mocking than guiding to me. "Even when things get most complicated, you stay doggedly simple." First, bad pun; second, not so much a virtue in Angel's case.

Also, the airplane wing reminds me of Donnie Darko, which, in terms of coherence and symbolism and what-all is worthy to squash S8 like a tiny ant under its shoe. (This says more about S8 than Donnie Darko. Just so we're clear.)

Hahaha, if Emmie or Maggie can make sense out of this, more power to them.

I'm not a fan of the talking dog, either. But then, I hated the talking hamburger, too, so that doesn't really make it better.

[identity profile] fenchurche.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, so am I the only person who read the dog's comment about "that goofy little cheerleader" really spinning Angel around and assumed it was refering to Cordelia? I was actually a bit surprised by the later dialogue that indicated the dog apparently meant Buffy.

Because really? Cheerleader to describe Buffy?

[identity profile] shipperx.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
So, let's see. Angel has lost his marbles, has become Son of Sam, and Oceanic Flight 815 is breaking up overhead...

Sure, Joss. Surrrrreeee.

The people on whedonesque seem to think it's an Angel from the future? I don't know?

Absolutely.

Confession: I've never seen Donnie Darko, nor do I feel any kind of urge to really do so.
