Like anythingbutgrey said in her comment, EVERYONE is on the X Files. It's one of the best "hey, it's that guy!" shows ever.
There is definitely a mytharc that starts to come together more as you get towards the end of the first season, and definitely kicks into gear in the second season, but a word of warning: DON'T EXPECT IT TO MAKE SENSE. Seriously. There are PARTS of it that make sense, but the mythology is kind of a mess. My advice is to invest in the relationships and not in the plot, because to expect it to resolve coherently in the end leads to madness.
But yay, I'm glad you're enjoying the show, and Scully and Mulder. It was my first true fandom love, and I still adore it so much, so I really enjoy seeing it being rediscovered.
