I love him as a writer and am really struck by how humble he is about the characters he writes (when he talks about them in interviews; this is the man who created Molly Grue in the The Last Unicorn and said the only way he could have written her is that she was a gift).

I was just thinking about whether I would go back and try to re-read/finish the Temeraire series, so thank you for this. I think maybe no? I got about halfway when I was in college and she wasn't done writing at the time, but I definitely lost steam a few books in. And you'd think naval battles fiction would be up my alley! Which it is, but there were diminishing returns.
