Very Silmarillion inside baseball, but OY did the fandom make me extremely leery of reading 90% of fic about the Fëanorions, whose role in the text is to be fantastic and surprisingly complex tragic villains, and whose role in the fandom is to be juggernaut-ship woobies who never did anything wrong.
