I ran a Piranesi rpg a few months ago. I told the players "Ignore the book, we're just going to look at Piranesi's drawings and see where the story takes us, just like Clarke did." It was really fun. Honestly if there were an adaptation to screen I'd kinda want the same thing, not an attempt to retell the book but just another creator being inspired to storytelling by the Carceri.
