Gosh, yes, I feel like media/information literacy is one of the most important areas of education right now. It's heartening to know that you're out there trying to help your students work through this stuff!
Far be it from me to try to get anyone to keep social media, but a friend recently shared a tip (that I never would have discovered on my own) that made Instagram usable to me again. If you click on the Instagram icon in the upper left hand and then choose the "following" option, it will show you only who you follow and in chronological order! The fact that they hide it pisses me off a great deal, but the capability is there. Which is such a relief because their algorithms really have made it unusable for those of us who just want to, like, see our friends' vacation pictures.
