Okay, so I still say the writing for The 100 started out really bad...but somewhere along the line it got better and by the end of the season I ended up enthralled. So come shout feelings at me and tell me what fic to read and tell me when the next season will be back. Random thoughts behind the spoiler cut.

+ At the beginning I felt like they were overwriting Octavia but she ended up becoming my bb girl

+ Also Raven. I sometimes feel like they push the sassy girl a liiiitle too far, but they did end up rounding her out more in the second half of the season so now I love her and want her and Clarke to be bffs and stop being awkward with each other over a bland guy

+ Also I think I do like Clarke, especially because I feel like she blamed herself for other people's choices less in the second half of the show

+ Bellamy gets to join my list of Obligatory Psychotic Jackasses That I Remain Fond of Even Though They're Kind of Terrible. List includes the usual suspects like Spike and Logan Echolls

+ Bellamy and Octavia sibling feelings, thank you writers

+ Octavia/Lincoln is the ship I am most invested in, so I was giddy when he ran away with her in the finale

+ Still not sure if I ship Clarke/Bellamy or if I just want them to be competent leader marrieds all the time without ever becoming romantic? I do know that HE FELL IN LOVE WITH HER WHEN SHE KILLED ATOM LIKE WHAT THE HELL???? And he sometimes looks at her with awe in a way that reminds me of like Buffy/Spike Veronica/Logan where the guy is the besotted one and in love with the lady's vicious side. I'm saying I think there's potential shippage there

+ But honestly I think the solution to everything is Bellamy/Clarke/Finn/Raven OT4. Like the ladies just share the dudes and then also end up falling in love with each other and everything's awesome

+ I can't figure out why I still don't care about Finn even though he was the one trying to make actually moral decisions in the second half of the season. I think something about the actor must not work for me? Because I feel like he'd normally be my moral baby?

+ DICHEN LACHMAN PLEASE BE A REGULAR NEXT SEASON

+ Ellen Tigh, I miss your scheming face already

+ And I wish they hadn't killed of Charlotte so quick because MURDER BABY was interesting and also I had a soft spot for her interactions with Bellamy

+ What exactly are the Reapers? Slightly mutated humans? When they found that weird skull in the pilot, was that a Reaper skull? AND ARE THEY CANNIBALS WHO EAT PEOPLE ALIVE?

+ Not sure how I feel about the fact that apparently the Mountain Men have been hanging out with civilization all along. And why is Anya so convinced they want to kill everyone?

+ Like, I just am not sure how I'll feel about next season because I basically started watching the show for the post-apocalyptic survivalist elements because that is my JAM especially when it's teenagers in such an environment. If things get too "civilized" in the second season I'm gonna be sad.

+ Has anybody read the book and is it good?

YAY YOU WATCHED IT!!!

I can't exactly warm up to Octavia :(. It might be the actress though -- she played a really weird character on Cult, and I'm still a bit weirded out when I see her face. Let's see if things improve on rewatch (I'm on episode 6 now).

RAVEN!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd say that she and Clarke aren't really awkward with each other in the finale? Clearly got over the bland guy, ad least in this aspect.

I definitely developed a soft spot for Bellamy, ugh. I'm so predictable. Give me a guy who manipulates a hundred people into creating a society because he wants to escape a murder charge, and I'm yours.

I can't shape the impression that Finn is awfully inconsistent. He's very arrogant and flippant in the first few episodes, then he loses it for no apparent reason, then there's the "whoops I cheated on my gf" drama... It's like Finn is whatever the writers need him to be at the moment.

I CRIED LIKE A BABY WHEN I SAW DICHEN LACHMAN, AND I AM WEEPING STILL!!!

I haven't read the book yet, but I hear it's not very good :(.

I'm surprised by how much I ended up liking Octavia because in the first few episodes I was like, "SO OVERWRITTEN OMG." But my feelings about a character are often determined by how much I can connect with the actor, so I totally get that.

I'd say that she and Clarke aren't really awkward with each other in the finale? Clearly got over the bland guy, ad least in this aspect.

Oh, yes, definitely! The "I'd pick you first" thing! I think all along they were willing to put awkwardness aside when it came to Getting Stuff Done and the show did a good job of keeping the love triangle from affecting the rest of the plot, so I thought it was handled as reasonably well as a love triangle can be.

I can't shape the impression that Finn is awfully inconsistent. He's very arrogant and flippant in the first few episodes, then he loses it for no apparent reason, then there's the "whoops I cheated on my gf" drama... It's like Finn is whatever the writers need him to be at the moment.

YES. YES YES YES.

DICHEN ALWAYS!

Well, I will skip the book then!

YOU FINISHED WATCHING!!!!

+ I love Octavia, I think she's so different from the characterization her "type" would get? Like she's wild and sassy but she also seems the one who's genuinely the most kind, if that makes sense. Pain affects her, and she tends to believe in people, which SEEMS such a contradiction to how she interacts with people and the world in general and I genuinely love that.

+ RAVEN THOUGH, FOREVER MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE AND THE ONLY REASON THAT I'M SUPER INVESTED IN THE SHOW. I agree with you on the sassy!girl! part, but I feel like they undercut that a lot, because, from the beginning, her motivation was her love for Finn (ugh Finn) because of how much she relied on him as her only family, which, I actually like because 'Strong Women Should Be Independent From Any Romantic Inclinations and Super Strong Emotionally' does not particularly float my boat, , and I love that her vulnerabilities get explored through that and that she's strong enough to say "I deserve better than you who are in love with someone else" but that she's also completely insecure and vulnerable in the aftermath with Bellamy or affected enough to be discussing this aspect when the world is about to end. I didn't feel like Clarke and Raven were particularly awkward though, and in the season finale they were positively shippy, hee.

+ Bellamy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES TO EVERYTHING YOU SAY. Also, Blake Siblings, GUH <3

+ I also have mixed Clarke feelings, but I also adore her because Finn tries to constantly be like "YOU'RE THE BETTER PERSON" and then she goes and does these things which make him all disappointed in her ~better ~personness and I LOVE that. Go Clarke!!

+ Weirdly, nocurr about Clarke/Bellamy, I have zero feelings about it (although Clarke's vicious, unforgiving side is my favorite) and I'm already "ughhh" at the prospect that it will def be a thing because 95% of fandom loves it. I get the mutual respect, but I'm not feeling the chemistry particularly (which puts me in the 0.1% of fandom opinion) and I feel like there's a lot more focus on her "goodness" in the relationship and how it ~influences Bellamy, than her vicious side, so the Veronica/Logan vibe is completely missing for me.

+ Finn, I dislike, although I liked him a LITTLE better in the finale. I think it must partly be the actor, there's something so...smarmy about him that even when I ideologically agree with any of his stances, I'm still "ugh, Finn".

+ Charlotte!!!!!!!! I WANTED MORE OF THAT. I think little girls are often untouchable in fiction (in terms of that they're usually the "goodness" and their interactions with characters are usually to make those character more appealing to the audience) so THIS character just made my month, so awesome!

+ Haven't read the book! But, from what I know, the book was actually written parallel to the show scripting, the writing for the show started when the book was still a draft, so the premise is same and there may be common elements, but apparently the showrunners are doing their own thing and it isn't really very book-dependent that way (sounds like TVD!)

lolol

I feel this is fandom SO MUCH - but it's not how I read them at all, so I don't see it in the series nearly as much. #me

ME NEITHER. I think he's influencing her to be vicious more than she's influencing him to be good. I'm sure fandom has latched onto the whole she's going to redeem him thing, but imo that's not what's going on on the show at all.

His SMILE when she shoots a gun for the first time. Ugh. That's a man who is willing to go down in the mud and it's so essential to Clarke that she needs Bellamy to be her dark side. Like if he's "redeemed" or whatever, I don't see them working as well?

They are both of them gorgeously messy and I love it.

OMG YES. Like the whole ~point is that they're surviving away from civilization and they're living in that mud right now and she needs somebody who can go all the way down into it. Yes indeed.

I DID!

Like she's wild and sassy but she also seems the one who's genuinely the most kind, if that makes sense. Pain affects her, and she tends to believe in people, which SEEMS such a contradiction to how she interacts with people and the world in general and I genuinely love that.

Agreed. She really won me over with trying to keep everyone from torturing Lincoln. I know part of it was "this is a hot guy who saved my life" but I do feel like she would have reacted the same if it was just some random Grounder.

but I feel like they undercut that a lot, because, from the beginning, her motivation was her love for Finn (ugh Finn) because of how much she relied on him as her only family, which, I actually like because 'Strong Women Should Be Independent From Any Romantic Inclinations and Super Strong Emotionally' does not particularly float my boat, , and I love that her vulnerabilities get explored through that and that she's strong enough to say "I deserve better than you who are in love with someone else" but that she's also completely insecure and vulnerable in the aftermath with Bellamy or affected enough to be discussing this aspect when the world is about to end.

I think you're very right here.

I didn't feel like Clarke and Raven were particularly awkward though, and in the season finale they were positively shippy, hee.

I LOVED their interactions in the last couple of episodes!!!

I also have mixed Clarke feelings, but I also adore her because Finn tries to constantly be like "YOU'RE THE BETTER PERSON" and then she goes and does these things which make him all disappointed in her ~better ~personness and I LOVE that. Go Clarke!!

I know! My actual morality is at odds with what I enjoy on the show, which is her making really vicious decisions.

but I'm not feeling the chemistry particularly (which puts me in the 0.1% of fandom opinion)

I haven't felt it from her side, but I'm a sucker for how he looks at her sometimes, so it's got potential for me. I do disagree though about how her "goodness" is supposed to be influencing him. I think he's influencing her FAR more than she is him.

I think it must partly be the actor, there's something so...smarmy about him that even when I ideologically agree with any of his stances, I'm still "ugh, Finn".

RIGHT? I want to be on the side of the character who always wants to do the right thing, but I just can't be with him!

I think little girls are often untouchable in fiction (in terms of that they're usually the "goodness" and their interactions with characters are usually to make those character more appealing to the audience) so THIS character just made my month, so awesome!

YESSSSSS. I think it's such a shame that they killed her off so quickly because she was SO INTERESTING.

But, from what I know, the book was actually written parallel to the show scripting, the writing for the show started when the book was still a draft, so the premise is same and there may be common elements, but apparently the showrunners are doing their own thing and it isn't really very book-dependent that way (sounds like TVD!)

That is so strange.

YOU SUMMED UP EVERYTHING COMPLETELY!

Like basically, I totally understand shipping Braven. I love my Braven friends.

But.

Leader. Ship.

GIVE ME PLATONIC MARRIEDS OR DIRTY SEX MARRIEDS OR TENUOUS POLITICAL ALLIANCE MARRIEDS IDGAF I WANT ALL THE BELLARKE-BEING-MARRIEDS THAT I CAN GET.

((the marrieds-ness tho. sooooo goddamn married!))

where the guy is the besotted one and in love with the lady's vicious side
Clarke is the most delicious mess since S3 Elena. And I love her for it.

Octavia is my bb girl and AMEN to Octavia/Lincoln shipping. (of course, I also love Octavia/Raven ANYTHING but hi! I'm me!)

But honestly I think the solution to everything is Bellamy/Clarke/Finn/Raven OT4. Like the ladies just share the dudes and then also end up falling in love with each other and everything's awesome
bless. except Finn because he's awful

EXCEPT WHEN HE AND BELLAMY EXCHANGE "OMG OUR WIFE IS THE BEST WIFE" LOOKS IN THE WOODS BECAUSE: MEN BONDING OVER THEIR WIFE IS THE BEST THING TO EVER HAPPEN

*sigh*

Bravenlark is my heart song.

DICHEN/CLARKE PRINCESSES-LEAGUE-TOGETHER IT'S WHAT I NEED SEASON TWO TO BE SOOO HARD.

((psst! Marta and Zoe have written heartbreaking fic for Braven mostly - but lots of good Clarke development/discussion also. because they're going to be polite and not mention it.))

In conclusion:

competent leader marrieds
Literally the entire time I was watching this I was thinking: "Damn, Lauren would love this show because ot3/4 competence porn." and then my brain said: "you should watch Leverage and then blackmail her or something" ... obviously RL wouldn't allow me to do that. But I'm really glad you're here now.

ilu I love this post

Aw, I think you'll like it! It's very lovable! I mean, more procedural than anything, but the characters and actors are good enough that you care about them. Except for Nate.
