By far the best line on this week’s Gossip Girl? “Who watches TV on a TV anymore, anyway?” Oh, Eric. Why are you so completely kick-ass? I’m totally in love with that line, even if it’s ridiculously self-aware and perhaps too broad of a wink at the audience. It doesn’t even matter. It’s still perfect. And Eric’s the one who said it!
If you’ve seen the episode, then you really need to go read this synopsis. I laughed so hard I almost fell off of my bed. It’s too funny.
And it’s right about everyone being out of character this episode, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying it.
For instance, Vanessa? Aren’t we trying to set her up as one of the voices of reason and morality in this world? And then we have her pull a Blair-like bit of blackmail on Blair? Stupid. Vanessa so doesn’t behave that way. She’s too smart for that.
And Chuck was also out of character. Going all soft just cuz he talked to that guy at the bar? Yeah, right. Though, “That’s possibly the nicest thing anyone’s ever said to me” is a pretty great line. But then he acted like he was developing all this respect for Vanessa and maybe even really liking her? Bullshit. Chuck Bass doesn’t have respect for anyone. He genuinely cared about Nate back when they were still BFFs, I think he really does care about Eric, too (how can you not?), and he appreciates Blair’s deviousness. But he doesn’t respect anyone. It’s not in his nature.
Still, despite his OOCness, I must admit that I think “We’re inevitable, Waldorf” is the greatest Chuck/Blair line ever. I squeed and flailed and all that fangirly stuff. Brilliant. And then “I’ll just imagine she’s you?” Oh, Chuck Bass. You are too great.
And though I adored the ending with him basically saying he wasn’t going to sleep with her unless she said she loved him, I did think it was out of character, again. Though “I chased you for long enough. Now it’s time you chase me” was so incredibly brilliant, I cannot even verbalize it. Oh, Chuck Bass. Oh, Chuck Bass.
Seeing Blair sort of desperate and actually admitting (even if not verbally) how much she wants Chuck was an interesting change. Perhaps OOC, but I guess that’s okay. Besides this exchange:
“I didn’t realize.”
“That tights are not pants?!?”
made the entire show for me. (There was so incredibly many great lines this episode. I feel that I will be quoting it constantly.) You heard her, people. Blair Waldorf has spoken.
Honestly, I’m kind of loving the bromance between Dan and Nate. I’m not a huge fan of either one of them on their own, but I like seeing them together. Maybe it came out of nowhere with no support to it at all, but it’s fun. I hope they run with it. Also, seeing Chuck be jealous of Dan for stealing Nate’s affections is just too hilarious. Oh, Chuck Bass.
Serena drove me absolutely crazy. Even more so than usual. She acted like a spoiled little girl. Did she have a right to be upset with her mother and even Bart? Sure. Yes. But the last place to voice those sorts of things is in front of reporters. Are you stupid, little girl? GAH! Though that bit gave me my other favorite Eric line of the show: “It wasn’t everywhere. Just on the smooth, shiny surfaces.”
And oh, yes! An answer to my prayers! More Eric! Being snarky! Without the highlights (though his hair still looks bad)! With a boyfriend who’s not a total bastard! I hope this trend continues forever and ever and ever.
So. Despite the total OOCness of this episode, I still enjoyed it. A lot.
But I still have yet to see this week’s Heroes, and I’m flipping out more than a bit. I have a feeling that this episode might be it for me. Like, goodbye, Heroes. I always said that would only happen if they killed off Noah Bennet, but I feel like I can make an expception when they’re killing off anything remotely approaching logic. My disbelief can only be suspended so far. So hopefully I can watch it tonight, and then expect a ranty post sometime later.
Also, hopefully later this afternoon/tonight I’ll be able to start catching up with y’all and replying to any previously-left comments. And also maybe write my new choco_cherries entry. Till then….
