So
finkpishnets will be most thrilled to hear that I have finished the first season of Being Human. And that I love it.
She will not be pleased to hear that I still like the original Mitchell better.
But! She will again be pleased to hear that I fangirl Annie like you would not believe, and that the OT3 love is strong with me. THEY ARE ALL MARRIED ALL TOGETHER. (Follow that link and let it convince you to watch the show.) Y'all, there is domesticity and hilarity and really poignant moments and fantastic plotting and general awesomeness to be had. Get on the bandwagon! A vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost sharing a house! And trying to be human! Awesomeness!

I am a sucker for domesticity. So this show gets me. Because Annie and George and Mitchell are adorable and hilarious and adorable again and I love them.
I fangirl Annie. I kind of want to be Annie as she is, as the picspam says, MADE OF RAINBOWS AND SUNSHINE. +1000000 for casting! I love how seriously they take the domestic abuse plotline with her and how it affected and affects her. Brilliant. Also, her ultimate Standing Up to Owen scene may be my favorite kick-ass moment since Buffy Freakin' Summers. Or at least Veronica Mars. I went all flaily with joy over the perfection of that scene. I hope Owen gets tortured for the rest of the show for what he did to her. I also really love that she's not the stereotypical Strong Female Character. I mean, as much as I love Buffy or Aeryn Sun or whoever, it's nice sometimes to see a female character who is strong but is also not physically imposing and who has the stereotypically girly emotions. She cries a lot. I love that about her, because I do, too. And yet she's still wonderful in every way.
George is awesome. OMG the way he squeaks! I love it! He's so neurotic and funny and when he does the Big Brave Thing at the end of the season I just want to huggle him! I thought he would annoy me, but he does not! Instead, he makes me happy, though I cannot crush on him because I view him the way I do Anwar on Skins: I want to spend the rest of my life pinching his cheeks. I think it is the ears. He has such stereotypically geeky ears. They stick out for miles and make him look pretty goofy, and it's fabulous. And more +100000 for casting!
Mitchell is great when he's getting all excited about doing human-y things! And how much he loves George and Annie just makes me so, so happy. I do roll my eyes when he broods, though. Which is probably as much Angel's fault as Mitchell's. I do not think I would like him on his own, but pair him with the other two, and I like him very much indeed.Though I still think the other Mitchell was better--and way, way more convincing as a vampire. Don't kill me!
I also love Nina. She is also adorable and hilarious and exactly the right girl for Georgeif only his vampire and ghost BFFs weren't waiting for him at home. And unlike any other character I can think of. Again +1000000 for casting!
I was absolutely mad about Gilbert, too. I wanted a zillion episodes with him, and I was crushed when he left. He was just so lovely, and his death scene made me cry: when he opened that door and looked in and smiled. Oh, Gilbert. +10000 for casting yet again!
I hatehatehatehatehated Lauren. Like, every time she was onscreen, I wanted to stab the screen with my fork (I watch TV while I eat my meals. Do not judge me). Gah, could she have been any more annoying? And she made Mitchell annoying when she was with him! I hated it! I was glad to see her go.
Herrick, on the other hand, was a fabulous Big Bad. I hope next season's is as as good.
And I knew Owen killed her from the very first scene he was in! I so called it! He is a despicable excuse for a human being, and did I mention that I wouldn't mind seeing him tortured? Poor Annie.
Fantastic pacing, show. Fantastic. Six episodes pack quite a punch when they're all excellent and don't waste anything at all.
I also like their pink house. It feels (and looks) very much like what a bunch of young people without a lot of money would live in.
The only thing I don't like (besides Lauren--who stole my name and made it bad!) is that I cannot figure out the vampire and ghost rules. So...Annie can touch things and now everyone can see her? How is that different from being alive, leaving aside the popping from one place to another and the new blowing people away skills? And vampires can not only go out in daylight but also they don't actually have to drink blood, and there's no substitute? I want a bit more sense-making, please.
But other than that, I love it all! And...I can't wait to start S2! Will it be longer? I hope and pray?
And I hear that they are going to make an American version. I do not approve. Unless they do something crazy like cast Enver Gjokaj and Aldis Hodge and Deborah Ann Woll all in the same show (I was just trying to think of my favorite young-ish American actors. But I've got good taste, no?), there is no way on earth that this can be anything close to good. CURSE YOU, AMERICAN TV! First Skins, now Being Human? Did Life on Mars teach you nothing?
*sigh*
But yes. I love this show, and I want everyone to watch it for it is made of loveliness. The. End.

There are times where I do really miss Old!Mitchell, and I almost hope Guy gets brought back as a different vampire? But I've warmed so much to New!Mitchell. I love that he's not at all a typical vampire - if anything he looks more like a werewolf and I sort of love that? I love that he's really not what you'd expect, and oh my god, flustered!Mitchell is the most glorious wonderful thing ever. He has such a fantastic smile and any time he and George are bickering like an old married couple, I am so deliriously happy. (Though I'll admit, in our Being Human drinking game, 'any time Mitchell spontaneously rock-videos' was a rule. And it was hilarious.) Also, I was just discussing this with Lucy, in that, I don't think Old!Mitchell wouldn't have worked with the lighter tone of S1?
GEORGE OMG MY LOVE FOR RUSSELL TOVEY KNOWS NO BOUNDS. SERIOUSLY. THAT BOY. I mean, Aidan's pretty, but fuck me, Russell can act. The journey of George in S2 at the moment is really interesting and dear god, that boy blows me away every time. He's just, he's got the best balance of neurotic and normal and terrified and oh, I just love him so much.
The George/Mitchell dynamic is my favourite thing, oh man, bffs for life. And I love how Annie just slips so easily into that without disrupting anything, just making it even better. I LOVE THIS SHOW.
And Annie. I will love that girl til the end of time. Endless cups of tea and flailing and so damaged and hurt but, she grows up, she takes Owen on and it's the most fabulous transformation. And you're right, the fact that she's girly and normal really enhances that for me. That she's not the typical Strong Female. And I think that's what I love best about the show, that it takes these concepts and makes them atypical and normal at the same time. It's one of the best and most original tv shows I've seen in a long time.
Ugh Owen. I called that as well, just, I saw him and went 'wow, you killed her' and I love that that's the way they went. GILBERT. I LOVED GILBERT. OH MAN. HE WAS SO GOOD AND FUNNY AND I WAS SO SAD WHEN HE WENT THROUGH THE DOOR. And Herrick was a fabulous Big Bad. Lauren...was not. But they have another Lauren-esque character this season and she's awesome.
Nina is so good in S1 but oh god, I can't stand her this season. They've taken away everything I loved about her and oh just, you'll see. It makes me so sad. That Annie thing does get explained in the fourth? episode; sort of briefly and offhand but it does get explained.

OMG IF THEY BROUGHT GUY BACK I WOULD DIE OF HAPPINESS.
anything he looks more like a werewolf and I sort of love that? Yeah, I do like that touch. Nobody looks like what you would expect a stereotypical ghost/vampire/werewolf would look like. It's a nice touch.
He has such a fantastic smile and any time he and George are bickering like an old married couple, I am so deliriously happy. Hahaha! I do enjoy that!
You come up with the best drinking games.
don't think Old!Mitchell wouldn't have worked with the lighter tone of S1?
Yeah, but he would have ROCKED the later stuff in the season with Herrick, etc. *weeps softly*
Russell's acting skills are so deceptive. Because you aren't sitting there getting blown away by his acting, you're getting there sitting blown away by George's emotions. And that is awesome.
And I think that's what I love best about the show, that it takes these concepts and makes them atypical and normal at the same time. It's one of the best and most original tv shows I've seen in a long time.
Agreed, agreed, agreed.
YES! I knew the moment I saw him that he killed her, and then when he told Mitchell that she was really sweet and kind and everything I was all "YOU KILLED HER DON'T EVEN." I like being right.
I've just watched the first two episodes of this season, and you're so right about Nina. IT SUCKS. (Although it was funny when Annie said that about there being a werewolf called Nina on Buffy. I was all, "Well, actually, she was on Angel, but I don't care because BTVS REFERENCE!). Not everybody has to angst all the time, and I loved her last season, but I am not liking this now.
Also: things that remind me of BtVS:
- This new Big Bad is kind of like the Initiative, only with religion.
- Hugh pretty much gives Annie Oz's speech to Willow about "when I imagine kissing you, you're kissing me back." (This is not a complaint: I love that speech! And Hugh is cute! In an unexpected way!)
- Daisy leading werewolf!Russell astray = Veruca leading werewolf!Oz astray. Except that Daisy is a fun character, and that scene in her daughter's room was absolutely fantastic. I loved it.
I think we must talk about this more later.

I really, really hope they do? The question is though whether he'd do it, I mean, since he was originally a lead role, perhaps he wouldn't be willing to take the part? I HOPE NOT THOUGH. Oh man, I really wanted him to be the gay vampire but alas, no. Because that would've been epic. And yes, he could've been really good with Herrick.
Hahaha our drinking games are rather epic. Who needs Ring of Fire when Mitchell's posing like an emo in front of a window?
God Russell. I honestly couldn't rave enough about that boy. He just slides so perfectly into his roles and dear god, this past episode I was so stunned because...well you'll see what I mean when you see it.
UGH UGH OWEN MADE MY SKIN CRAWL ALL THE TIME. Though the bits with Janie Harris were hilarious. But god I think he was played so well and again, this show is so good at casting.
RIGHT? This thing with Nina makes me so so sad. I was so initially against her and then she turned out to be awesome and then, this? This is what we get? And the thing is, we knew it would happen because angst was all they were ever going to do in regards to George scratching her. I just wish they'd done it better, because the actress could do so much better.
Yes! The BtVS/Angel reference made me so happy. And oh god, those parallels, you're so right. Also HUGHHHHHHH. I LOVE HIM SO SO SO MUCH OH MY GOD THAT SPEECH WAS THE MOST WONDERFUL THING SO CUTE.
Daisy is so fabulous. Crazy and Welsh and fabulous.
